Did I do a douchey thing today?

Question

So I've been practicing trying to not be so shy toward girls.  I read an article by a girls who said she is impressed if a guy approaches her and says she's hot, and so today I told a girl she looked hot.  But she just said oh... like she was uncomfortable and had no idea what to say and after a pause said an unenthusiastic "thank you."  So this obviously wasn't the reaction I was going for but my question is is this a particularly horrible thing I should never do again or is it just surprising and/or still flattering when the awkward moment passes?

I don't know what article you read, but that move will not impress girls. She'll only think you're after her because of her attractiveness. As awkward as it was, she's still flattered, yet didnt know how to respond to that. Don't be hard on yourself, I wouldn't call it "douchey". Next time, go for a synonym of "hot" or get to know her better before making an impression of what could be classified as a "player".

Don't ever do that again.
That's stupid.
Very few girls wanna be told they are hot by random guys.
We DO however, LOVE to be told we are pretty and beautiful and things like that.
But being told we are hot and sexy and stuff, just makes us feel like all guys care about is sex and feel pretty worthless.
So yeah, it was stupid.
Whatever you read was dumb.
VERY few girls like that, unless it comes from their boyfriends or something.

EVERY girl is different. Some girls would get offended and think you are acting forward. some girls would love it....

some advice: I think its pretty ehhh for a guy to do that, I wouldn't like it. haha

How you said it might of made it weird.  Would she of reacted that way if James Bond or myself said the same thing to her?  'nuff said.
