Egypt: do you feel like egypt is becoming slowly a part of europe?

i now hear things like "my girlfriend" or a girl saying "da kan wa7ed sahbi" watta? keda 3eni 3enak?

until now there is nothing that really violates our traditions..but i am worried on the future...

just imagine that you have a kid , then he goes missing for a day or so , then he comes back and tells you "i was at my best friend's place!(which is a girl) , chill!"

Update:

thank you all...we will make sure we raise our youth well and teaching them how and why they must not get westernized. or how they should take the good without the bad from the west..

Oh I understand what you're saying. Honestly ya I think we are being influenced a lot by western culture. Do you see they way we are acting like the way we dress, talk, our media especially, disrespect our parents, etc. This disgusts me this boy girl thing. You guys all probably think im boy crazy or something on here, but in person im really strict with that stuff. Like if I go chill with my buds and than some guys invite us somewhere I go home. A girl will never be respected until she learns how to respect herself. If she puts herself in positions like that, and something bad happens she should suffer the consequences. I have no pity. Also, our media is an important one. This boy Tamer Hosny in Omar wa Salma. Are you serious??? Is that how Egyptian boys act? Slapping girls in inappropriate places, flirting with her, etc. Nah that is repulsive. Also, singing and our entertainment ewwwwww. Why? Why can't we do something useful instead of obsess over role models like amr diab, tamer hosny, haifa wehby. Ewww. How about we try to be like salah el din (my fave person in the whole world besides our prophet), Prohet Muhammed PBUH, great leaders, etc.

My kid better not do any of that stuff. Im actually surprisingly really old fashioned with my beliefs wallah. That's why im my papas favorite. In Egypt I see girls doing this shisha thing, smoking, and when she wears the hijab she wears immodest clothing. That's repulsive. Girls shouldnt act like that. Egypt is going down the drain. We aren't as great as we used to bee. How disappointing.

@MuslimRose: Shokran haha. That really made me feel better.

    wow, what a downer.

@YO: I totally agree with you about the Omar w Salma thing....that movie is trash trash trash. Seriously, after I watched it I almost cried. Like, I used to hold Egypt up on such a pedestal (don't worry, I still love Egypt more than anything) but then I watched that movie and I was like "Seriously? Is this stuff really happening in Egypt?" What is even more disturbing is that so many young people think the film is so cool and girls actually think it's romantic---HOW?!

I've always wanted to raise my future children in Egypt so to be away from this stuff---but I'm scared of what the future holds :( I really hope this crap dies out....

First of all, thank you for your service. I guess most people are oblivious to the dangers of the world because of the unholy trinity of liberal politicians who have sold out this country for power, the mindless liberal lemmings who will vote for these Democrat leaders because they promise them more and more largess from the public trough, and the liberal media that serves as the public relations arm of the Democrat party. The worst thing? These folks who demand tolerance of every alternative idea, religion and lifestyle are completely INtolerant of the Judeo-Christian principles upon which our country was founded. Frankly, I think they hate everything America has traditionally stood for, and that includes respect for the men and women who stand between them and the enemies who would destroy them in a minute if they had the chance. So, no, you're not the only one who feels this way. There are others who stand behind you all the way.

    Two words: "3o2det el-khawaga".

We have no shortage of variety among Egyptians, and to paint them all with the same brush as being "europeanised" (so to speak) is just the same as the Europeans saying that their countries are getting "islamised".

The reason for the appearance is that the extreme is almost always more vocal than the moderate, and nations every where are plauged by their own varieties of wingnuts and loonies. Ours happen to be those who can't stand being respectable and those who fear the opposite sex to the point they wish segregation and ultra-conservatisim (KSA style).

But hey! Socially we are way better than past generations. We don't drink, we respect who we are and where we come from, and girls don't dress like Japanese cartoons and guys don't dress like girls! I remember seeing some old photos of my grandma and I was shocked. The short skirt and open blosue thing, I mean seeing that.. what the hell are you raving on about!! LOL

@Wolf: I think you too are generalizing and exagerating when you talk about GUC,AUC,BUE.. etc.

They are no different than the government universities and they are more controlled. I say this and am sure of it as I have had hands on experience with both. Have you?

I think Egypt, just like Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Dubai... are all becoming more globalized with time.

I actually think it's partly good, women are gaining more respect and people are gaining more freedom.

I do believe in individual freedom, and the fact that guys and boys date and fall in love is not new.. It was simply hidden at first, but now people are more open and less afraid.

However, I hope that we can learn good things from Europe and not bad things. and still respect some of our traditions, the good ones.

I hope we learn more about art and cultures.. we learn to read and study more.. we learn to work harder.. we learn to never lie.. and all the good things..

For me, It's okay if my daughter goes out with a guy, I never want her to feel week when she does that , like all Arab girls used to feel.

The guys are always cool when they speak to girls.

But girls are bad girls if they speak to guys.

Dont u all agree that we should forget about these small issues and focus more on developing our society, learning and becoming better,....??

Well I hope that won't happen. Lots things r causing Egypt like that. Technology is a main reason. And the West is influencing the Arab world. Egypt should stay as Egypt.

well just be happy there not like most American kids & and those other few around the world who do drug, have sex at very young age, and drink under age limit....its disgusting

@YO "A girl will never be respected until she learns how to respect herself. If she puts herself in positions like that, and something bad happens she should suffer the consequences"

i agree with you there 100%

I think someone should speak out and remind everyone how grate our culture is and will remain the same way with hopefully no dramatic change like that..

i think you are right at some parts...but actually i see they have taken from europe only the bad side and can't take the good one,

and yep they started to violates the traditions too but still not "3eni 3anak", one can see it in movies sadly or hear about it!..

ya rab yerzokona b elzorrayya alsal7ah.

@dal i like your answer gril, but most ppl want to live in the west though of its corruption looking for a better living standard or hoping to reach the goals they couldn't acheive in egypt which all is sad!

YANHAR ESWED!!! w kolohom mel 3alam elly ra7et a3adet f amreeka shwaya (no offense to the respectable people whom am honored to have met here) tela2eehom etganeneno a el 3alam el negsa deh!!!! So yeah i can feel you, this bf.gf stuff shouldn't be tolerated like you find a girl sleeping in a guy's lap and other crappy stuff like this!!! In the GUC,BUE,AUC you will find AWKWARD stuff beyond measure!!!!!! I only wish that those kind of people don't call themselves of any religion because they are nothing but point blank sinners!!!!! w Rabena el haady ba2a!!

@Mohab: am a GUCian wana 3aref ana ba2olak a. From what i have seen with my OWN eyes and every single word of what i said does and did happen. I don't know about government universities because i hadn't been in one but from what i hear that colleges like Trade and Commerce and stuff like that have such stuff but i don't think in reputable colleges like Pharmacy, medicine, engineering and dentistry.

By the way,if you have so much knowledge about what goes in private universities, then you should know what happens in the U area of the GUC,right?
