Does saying "Happy Holidays" REALLY take the Christ out of Christmas?
If you are a Christian, isn't Jesus supposed to be in your HEART?
Merry Christmas has been so many times and I've heard it so many times that it's like saying "pass me a Kleenex". I don't necessarily think of Jesus with Christmas, but more of the pagan things that go along with that holiday time -- like the Christmas tree, the Christmas decorations, the Christmas cookies, the Christmas shopping and spending. None of those things are truly "Christlike". Jesus didn't have cookies or a tree with decorations . . . commercialism wasn't what Jesus or Christianity was supposed to be about.
If you believe in Christ, isn't he still there . . . even through the happy holidays?

Christmas has become commercialized and sadly lost almost all of the religious significance it had, except for the minority of families that actually make it out to Church on that day or the night before. Actually I think it would be better & more honest to change the name to Santa Claus Day and recognize it as a secular holiday. For one thing, everyone could celebrate that way regardless of religious belief and it would be easier on the children whose parents do not believe in celebrating a Christian holiday. For another thing, Jesus wasn't born on that day anyway & it was, as we all know, a pagan celebration of the winter soltice that it was directly pitted against, hence the date. I think Easter is "the Christian" holiday and the important one to celebrate. Just my 2 cents.

Actually there never really was a Christ in Christmas at all.
The Christian Christmas is a fabrication based on a falsehood, and I have no idea why Christians celebrate a pagan holiday when they know, or should know, that it's not the birth of Jesus at all and actually based on pagan beliefs.
It's like basing your entire belief system on truth and inerrancy, and then going ahead and celebrating the 4th of July in August
The holiday celebrated on December 25 was being celebrated long before the Roman Catholic Church decided to make December 25 the day to celebrate the birth of their half god-half human deity. It was the Roman Saturnalia. It was the Roman Festival of Sol Invictus (the Undefeated Sun God). It was the Pagan festival called Yule ( as in Yuletide and bringing evergreen trees into the house to decorate).
The earliest Christians believed that Jesus was born on May 20, or possibly March 25. It wasn't until about 378 CE that Catholics decided Dec. 25 would be the "birthday" of Jesus.
So much for that. Now, as far as I am concerned, if Christians want to celebrate the pagan feasts of the solstice, the Festival of Sol Invictus, the Yule or the Saturnalia and PRETEND it is the day that their half god-half man was born, it's okay with me.
But I really think they should at least be aware of THE TRUTH behind their "birthday celebration".

People tend to say Happy Holidays to others because they may not know what religion the person they are saying it to is. Not everybody celebrates Christmas.
I am a Christian and I agree that there are many distractions for Christians during this time of year. Satan lives to distract people from God. I believe that there is nothing wrong with traditions (such as decorations) as long as they bring the family together & that they remember the true meaning of Christmas which is that our Savior was born to save all of us =). Plus, I think it's nice that during this time of year, it tends to bring out the best in people. People tend to be more giving, loving & accepting. That IS more Christlike and it's great to see!! =)

No the fact that Christmas was just a holiday turned into a christian one to convert pagans and then declared the birthday of Christ takes the Christ out of Christmas.

What I want to know is:
Why are some Christians so worried about taking Christ out of Christmas but then they do not care about taking the Mass out of Christmas?
With love in Christ.

Christmas isn't a christian holiday to start with.. it is a global holiday..

Miss Manners printed a letter this week from a sales clerk that asked is it all right to wish people Happy Holidays. She said "please do not allow the misuse of religion to browbeat others to make you doubt yourself. "Happy holidays" is the general greeting because, as you know, not all your customers are Christian, but they all do get legal holidays for Christmas and New Year's Day."

"Happy Holidays" & "Season's Greetings" both recognise there are multiple of Spiritual and Cultural traditions at this time of the say.
