Why are the Dems forcing this before Christmas?
From this article...http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091222/ap_on_bi_ge/us...
The Senate has been voting at odd hours since Monday around 1 a.m. because Republicans have insisted on using all the time allowed under Senate rules to delay the bill. Not to be thwarted, Reid, D-Nev., has refused to postpone action until after the holidays. Hence the unusual schedule. On Tuesday, they started voting at sunrise.
With long hours getting in the way of family obligations — and the outcome now seemingly preordained — senators are getting frustrated. Even Obama has put his planned vacation to Hawaii on hold, saying he wants to be in Washington in case there are last-minute problems in the Senate.
Reid appealed to his colleagues Tuesday to set aside acrimony and reach for some holiday spirit.
"I would hope everybody will keep in mind that this is a time when we reflect on peace and good things," he said.
....So Why are the Dems (Reid?) hell-bent on forcing this through on Christmas Eve? This can be postponed until after Christmas instead of Reid forcing everyone to stay while he states his bold face LIE that Republicans are to blame for Congress having to stay until Christmas Eve. Why can't it wait until after Christmas?? (And why is everyone, including Fox, saying it's the Republicans fault that everyone has to stay there until Christmas Eve?)
Aren't you guys on the left a bit upset about this too? Cause if you'll be patient, you'll get what you want! It can wait a week or 2!
Anyone else want to throw up because of this grandstanding?
Hostage, can you not read? It's not the Republicans scheduling these things at odd hours. It's your side, whether it's Reid or someone else who is probably taking Reid's orders. Idiot. Get a brain.
Hey, I'm all for these guys taking a nice long vacation. Part of me wonders if Reid would force everyone to stay ON Christmas Day if he had to.
Christmas is a time to spend with family, not trying to ram a bill down everyone's through. I say again, WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH WAITING A WEEK OR TWO...AS IN LETTING EVERYONE GO BE WITH FAMILIES as opposed to making them be on Capital Hill with a vote they know most of the country is dead-set against. I mean if they're going to force it down out throats like this, can't they wait until after Christmas? Especially if they know the Republicans are going to delay this as long as possible.

The general public pays less attention to politics this time of year. People are busy shopping and travelling and visiting family, not sitting at work reading the news, or sitting at home in front of the TV news.
It has the highest chance of a reduced backlash for those that vote yes.

The president had to postpone his Hawaii vacation? Well I feel truly, truly sorry for all these senators who now won't have the time to take their families to their vacation homes because they're trying to pass a bill to help the American people.
Guess what I'm going to be doing on Christmas eve? NOTHING. My husband is deployed, working 24/7...and these senators, elected by the public, don't want to stay to Christmas eve trying to pass an initiative FOR the public?
The republicans have been post poning this bill forever...trying to use up more time than they're alloted, starting contraversy (Lieberman/McCain vs. Franken saga).
I am not one bit upset about this. I'm more upset about the fact that you and others think Christmas Eve (not even Christmas DAY) is more important than a bill for the American people

Scientific fact that conservatives hearts actually lose 5% of its ice during the Holiday Season. This "Global Conservative Warming" effect ends on New Years Day. Quite sad, really, but you can't fight nature.
Maybe they can make them change their minds, but I fear that corporations are shoring up their ice with cold, hard cash :(
