can i make a cake like this?

hey everyone! im planning on making a cake, but i have never baked one before so i dont know if it will taste good or not. can you help me?

ok so here's what i was planning to do:

http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/angel-lush-51...

i m gonna do pretty much what the lady in the above video did, except use a regular white cake mix(not angel) and use diet soda instead of oil/water/eggs, etc.

do you think it will turn out well? any ideas are appreciated. thanks :)

Update:

well yeah i would use angel but the thing is that i dont have the angel food cake pan :(

and i dont wanna spend extra money on it if i can make the cake this way.

It may work just fine, but I have made that cake before as directed and it is good. I'm thinking that the weight of the regular cake might be a bit much for that filling though, so it might all squish out.

Why would you use diet soda? That's not going to work in your cake. The point of oil, water and eggs is for binding and leavening and moisture. Diet soda is simply water and sugar, so you'll end up with a really sweet, fairly flat and thin mix.

As for the cake--you can go ahead and use a white cake mix, but it will be a heavier cake. Angel food cake is very light which is the point of the recipe.

It would be good for the garbage thats about it. You have to have eggs and oil for a cake !
