How long should I wait after stopping birth control?
My husband and I want to start our family soon and I've been on birth control about 4 years. I've heard you should wait a month and have a regular period after stopping the pills before you try to get pregnant, but my doctor didn't seem concerned about that? Should we use condoms the first month? I've never had an issue with irregular periods, but I want to do everything possible to have a healthy pregnancy. Do you know why some say to wait a month?

im pretty sure that the only reason they want you to wait is so that its easier for them to tell how far along you are. i would start right away, most women dont get pregnant the month after anyways because its still in there system. it wont hurt the baby at all. and a simple ultra sound will help them find out how far along you are. when i got pregnant the first time they thought i was two week farther along than i was and at 10 weeks they gave me an ultra sound and changed my due date. no big deal.

They say to wait a month because birth control can take a while to get out of your system, some women don’t even get a period after stopping birth control and stopping it sometimes cause your AF to become irregular. While it can take up to six months for some women to even begin ovulating regularly after stopping their pills, some women become pregnant the very first month. If your cycles are irregular after six months, or if you do not have a period after two moths without a positive pregnancy test, we recommend you see your doctor for a consultation.
Good Luck!
