    It's the creation of a new family when people get married. It's tradition and 90% of women change their last name.

    It comes from the time when women were considered property; when she married a man, she became part of his family and lost her relationship to her own family. Many women now keep their own names when marrying.

    My cousins who got married recently just added their spouses' last names to their own. So that can be another alternative since you obviously don't prefer the traditional way.

    It's a choice-you do not have to take the man's last name. You can keep your own, hyphenate the two names, he could take yours...I know a couple that combined their two last names in to one different name.

    What?She should take the neighbor's last name instead?

    The Bible says in Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

    2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

    It says GOD called "their name Adam".

    It is a standing tradition.

    i would GLADLY give up the tradition of having her take my name if i can give up the tradition of listening to her nag, having to buy her stupid anniv. presents, paying for the mortgage, not being able to bang my hot assistant, etc.
