The power to make Amendments?
Okay, so I just want to get the opinions (as well as some facts) from other people...
Why do you think that adding Amendments to our Constitution is important?
How do Amendments pertain to you personally?
Are people abusing the rights given to them?...
Your opinion is greatly appreciated :)

Amendments allow the Constitution to deal with issues that were not there when it was written, they are very rare , and they effect us all since income tax was one!

Adding ammendments to our Constitution is important to ensure that the Constitution does not become outdated. The importance of the ammendment process also has a lot to do with how you believe the Constitution should be interpreted (see link below for a discussion on this).
Personally, the ammendments do not affect me directly. Typically it is laws that do that. But the ammendments serve as a check against laws and a law that violates the Constitution can be overturned. In that sense, the Constitution is the basis for laws in the country.
I think it is hard for anyone to abuse the ammendment process since it is so hard to actually pass an ammendment (a simple majority doesn't work). In my opinion, the ammendment process, particularly the large amount of support required to pass an ammendment, is one of the reasons our Constitution has remained effective for as long as it has.
