Is the CD key to Windows Upgrade simply a CD key I'd get by buying Windows standalone?
I got Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7Home Premium upgrade package. The disk comes with a CD key (Product key). If I was to get the Windows 7 Home Premium disk, could I use this CD key to install it without any legal/compatibility problems?
If the above isn't clear enough, could I basically use the CD key from an Upgrade version to install the OS cleanly from scratch with a retail CD?

You can't (officially) do a clean install with an upgrade key. Luckily, there is a legal workaround: http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upg...
