Does walmart really care about their associates?
My father in-law has passed away. He worked for them 19 years! No card, no help and ppl showing up at their house un announced. The home office did not even contact my husbands mom like the store said they would. They canceled my moms discount card and did not bother to tell her that they have to send a new one for 1 year. She had to do all the calling to get the arrangements handled. She was embarrassed to have her card rejected at the store. Basically I took from that was screw the family, and only care about the employees, so they can keep them working. If you feel like you are going to work for this company don't!!! I will not set another foot in any walmart stores!!!
So my question for all of you would you work for walmart?
They did not even send a card, flowers, or anything. I called them to ask why and they said that they thought we were not sure if we were going to have a funeral. My mom told them that there will not be one because she could not afford it. They only cared about the feeling about the store associates and how they felt about him passing. The manager was a jerk and talked about his father dying and he knew how we fell. What an "A" hole!
2 team associates showed up at the house and my mom did not know them. They felt like they were not welcomed, because my mom did not invite them in the house. Come on! She did not know them and they did not bother to call.
They went back to the manager and told him that. The manager said they were grieving and they are doing there own thing for the employees at the store.

Welcome to the real world, it is not any companies responsibility by law to help a widow. Most companies don't even offer pentions or retirement for spouses. This is America, you can work where you want. The fact that your mother inlaw had to do paper work is a requirement. The company cannot afford to pay someone to hold her hand. Death sucks and then there is work to do when you feel like you cannot do anything at all, but it is required. I had to do a lot of paper work when my mom died too, it is normal.
Also the manager being an A hole is a reflection on himself, don't blame walmart because he is a looser.
As for people showing up to the house, it shows me that everyone involved has a lack of ettiquete, maybe the people should have called, but maybe no one ever taught them why. And as for your mother in law, most people have food ready just incase someone pops in to pay their respects. I understand why she didn't want to let them in, but she should have posted on the door a large note that there is no funeral and to call before showing up. She is wrong too, and people do talk.
Now if the store has a memorial or something it would be wrong not to invite the widow.
They didn't send flowers or a card because there wasn't any funeral, and since the manager is an A hole he will not send a personal note to the widow.
You have to understand, not the most smartest or educated people work for walmart, they don't pay a lot. Maybe your Father in Law was different, but I'm mentioning this as a generality, which is why your family got such a bad rub off.
Learn from this and move on, try to strive for a job better than Walmart.
Sorry my spell check doesn't work.
