A scientific question for the non-scientific?

Anyone with a well founded scientific background need not answer.

To anyone else who's chosen fields or level of education has not given them a strong scientific understanding, I would like to hear in your own words; What is the electromagnetic spectrum?

Update:

Edit: Thanks for the great answers! Just wanted to see what the average level of knowledge was on the subject.

it may take a financial disaster to describe to you approximately polling. the superb i will do is supply you references. Polls could properly be fallacious in maximum of approaches, incredibly none of them are honestly "scientific" as you assert. The are superb wager at maximum. all of it boils right down to pattern length and the tactic of Sampling which you employ. the bigger the pattern length the greater precise the survey. Taking a one thousand people at random from a attainable Million people who will vote is rather very erroneous way of sampling. the ideal concern could be to call honestly everyone in the completed u . s . a ., or maybe then, you may nevertheless no longer have honestly everyone, reason i'm valuable there are some people devoid of a telephone that could nevertheless vote. the tactic is rather significant, yet what's maximum severe is understanding each approach is inheritantly fallacious. the variety you word the question, the variety you habit the interview, the variety you %. the pattern, all of them have a capability on the top result. in spite of telephones, no longer honestly everyone will answer or maybe have one. So the greater your prepared to confess your survey is fallacious the greater precise. there are a number of common the variety to botch consequences by ability of the variety you chosen to get your consequences. The time or day, the nieghboorhood, what demographic. maximum elementary is the nationwide polls, they do no longer even symbolize how the honestly election will take place because of the fact the election is predicated off of a state by ability of state ballot no longer a nationwide one So the nationwide pattern is already incredibly fallacious. there is lots blunders in contact with the aid of polling they are too distinctive to count extensive variety. lots can take place by ability of twist of fate that it rather isn't solid in any respect. So in an rather short precis, once you notice a ballot that provides you in basic terms the outcomes devoid of any recommendations approximately how they have been given those consequences and no explaination on how those consequences could be fallacious, its no longer a "scientific" ballot. as a fashion to be "scientific" it must be in a thesis format with mentioned motives for attainable rejection and a ability to repeat the survey with the comparable approach, in any different case it ability no longer something to a scientist. in any case under are some supplies, in case you honestly choose to coach your self. Statistical diagnosis is a logistics concern, and its complicated.

    a spectrum is a range

electromagnetic fields in our vicinity emanate from the sun, for one point of origin, and there is some background 'cosmic radiation' in the universe some speculate echoes the Big Bang

all of those forces and fieds might be called electromagnetic fields

someone told me recently that the understanding of the relationship of waves, particles and orbits of subatomic particles has changed a great deal since I was in hs and college, so for all I know this little bit of astronomy has changed a lot, too.

I'm not sure that other heavenly bodies generate electromagnetic fields other than stars, but they may

Ummm... I think it has something to do with microwaves, wavelengths, radiation, light. Some of it is visible (the optical spectrum) and some is invisible. Umm... quantum nano particles and dark matter and the red shift and eclipses. I'm not smart. God did it! Can I have 10 points?

This is off the top of my head - I'm not looking it up anywhere, so be prepared for me to be waaay off base. It's the full range of light, including visible and invisible. It extends beyond both sides of the visible light spectrum, into infrared on one side and ultraviolet on the other. I think radio waves, etc. are beyond that.

I think it's the range of colors in light or something like that. I'm probably wrong though, science definitely is not my strong point :)

  • Hehehe this should be fun, I can imagine quite a few copy and paste jobs from Wikipedia, with none of it sinking in.
