Where is the mystery drip from?

In a newly-purchased home, the master bathroom faucet had a slow drip. The faucet is a Glacier Bay

nickel-plated, two-handled, 4" faucet (homedepot.com SKU# 247368 if you want to see it). I replaced the hot AND cold cartridges in the handles but still have the same slow drip. Can anyone tell me where the slow drip is coming from? How can I stop it??

Usually, the hot water faucets seem to leak first in my experience. You can buy a new part and it can still be defective. To see which one is leaking (hot or cold), go to the hot water cut off and cut it off. It may have one under the sink; if not, you will have to cut off the water to the hot water heater. Turn on a hot water faucet for a few seconds to relieve the pressure, and then turn it off. Wait for several hours (overnight would be better) without using the hot water. If it still leaks when you check it, then it is the cold water cartridge that is bad. If it doesn't leak, then it is the hot water cartridge that is bad. Also, check the water pressure regulator. They can go bad and cause high water pressure, which can create leaks. Good luck.

    You don't give enough information.

If the leak is around the top of the handle (and not out the spout) - different story

If the leak is around the base of the handle... different story

If the "drip" is coming out the spout of the faucet, one or the other cartidges you put in were damaged - probably cut by a burr or other rough spot inside the faucet. Glacier Bay is a junk Chinese brand sold by HD. There is probably a burr or other sharp surface/flashing inside that is slicing your new cartridge when you put it in, allowing water to leak by. If you can't find it and smooth it out - it's going to do the same thing to every cartridge you put in it. Glacier bay is notorious for these kinds of poor fit-and-finish problems - but what do you want for a $25 faucet?

I sort of agree with the other person - your best bet may be to replace it with a Delta or Kohler faucet. Of course a lot of those are made in China these days with poor fit/finsish too - so good luck.

call the realtor, it should have been fixed before it was sold,

    Source(s): old timer
  • Just take about four or five beers(depending on your body weight) and you'll forget all about that drip.
