Texas has no state income tax.
If the $990 was your only income for the year, then you are not required to pay federal income tax. However, you may file anyway. If you decide to file, then you will probably receive a small refund, due to certain credits that are available to anyone who was paid by their employer.
If you have enough other income, then you must file a federal income tax return and must pay federal income tax on the total of all your income for the year, including this $990 and the other income.

If you supported your children, you might have a little extra back. But it is awfully hard to support kids on $990 a year. Whomever is paying your bills may have some extra money back!

If you get a W-2 with wages shown in box 1, file as EIC could be worth a little bit of money to you.
