How do I remove the hard drive from my Dell Inspiron B110 desktop?

I am going to donate my computer, but I would like to remove the hard drive first so I am not just giving away all my personal info. I have taken off the side panel, but there are several boxes inside, and I do not want to take out the wrong piece of hardware. On the top left when looking inside, there are 2 boxes and each contain a fan. The box on top is big and silver, the box below that is even bigger and green. Then there are 2 boxes to the right. The one on the top right appears to be the CD drive, since it is directly behind where you would put in a cd, and it appears to be sitting in a slot or shelf. The one on the bottom right is in a spot directly behind where the USB ports are, and has a metal cage around it. I am assuming this is the hard drive? But you know what happens when you assume, so I am asking for help before proceeding :) I am sorry, I know it will be hard knowing what I am talking about just by describing it to you. But I want my hard drive in my hand before I give it to someone else. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer, and Merry Christmas :)

The bottom right metal "cage" is indeed your hard drive. You will need to locate all of the screws before taking it out. It can be anywhere between two and three screws. If it isn't coming out nicely then there is probably a screw still attached. Once you unscrew it and get it out I would suggest taking a hammer to it. Hard drives are ridiculously difficult to destroy, but unless you want to KEEP your hard drive, you need to destroy it before you dispose of it.

If you do decide to dispose of it, have fun! It's a blast =]

    Hi There,

Below is a link where you can download a manual that will explain how to remove the hard drive.

Should be no problem but if you prefer a computer shop should be able to remove the hard drive for you in about ten minutes for little charge.

    Hope this helps,

Why bother removing it. If your are not going to use it and just worry about the contents, just erase it. It won't take much time and effort , like looking for the hard drive which you don't know what it looks like. Download Active@killdisk and it will erase all the infos on the hard drive. It works like a files shredder that no recovery tools can recovery it. And you can get it free.
