In your opinion, do you feel a person should have the ability to remove a thumbs-up/thumbs-down from an answer?

In particular, when a person who was thumbs-upped or thumbs-downed edits their answer, and changes it to something different?

Why or why not?

Thank you for your answers,

Yes, i do. As a matter of fact, i am glad you did ask this.

I was not able to do but to delete my answer...this is my fifth language and in many occasions, i wasn't able to see the nonsense i've answered at ''first try'' and i wanted to change it later...for misconception.and of course - do to the rules, i wasn't able to do so

Merry CHRISTMAS MM..i love you - as i don't doubt many others do so as well.

Happy Holidays to your family and to you as well

    ((((MM))))

Yes, especially since I have accidentally hit the wrong one and gave someone a thumbs down that I didn't mean, or a thumbs up that I didn't mean to do......it would be good if we could correct it.

The thing that bothers me the most about Yahoo Answers is REPORTING. Anyone can report you just because they don't agree with you or don't like you. And if you try to appeal it, even if its obvious that you didn't do what you were accused of, they still NEVER FIX IT, and you get a stupid email saying you lose the points anyway. I think the appeals thing is a joke and its all done automatically by the computer without any human being even looking at it.

The thumbs and thumbs down dont do anything they are worthless so why bother changing it, but it is fun giving a bad answer and then after you get a lot of thumbs down change it to a good answer.

or give a good answer then after you get thumbs ups change it to something really nasty.

i dont care if we can change it or not, the thumbs have no purpose

If you mean the one that gave the thumb, then yes. When you edit you might change the reason that I gave you a thumb. Also think they should let you know who gave the thumb.

OMG, yes!!! There've been a few times I did that to the wrong answer!

More importantly -- VOTING!!! Just one click, and you're committed, and someone who gave some really asinine remark just got the vote. It's especially horrible with those questions that don't get a lot of votes... I mean, the HORROR!!! The poor person is going to want to know who actually deserves to have the best answer to their question, and the one who wins is the one who says something foolish, incomprehensible, or RUDE! O_O

This should not be!!! I agree. I'm telling the Yamster about this now.

No, absolutely not. These are other peoples' opinions and should remain up. Anyone who posts on a public board should have skin thick enough to endure public scorn.

Edit One: Yes, indeed. My posts are my own business and no one has the right to criticize me.

    Edit Two: Well, maybe.

    Are you getting this?

Okay, this is a real first edit: Why would you change an answer so radically as to give it an entirely new meaning? Adding to a post to clarify something is one thing, but to change the whole of it borders on the intellectually dishonest.

  • I don't like the thumbs up/down system...it is open to all sorts of abuse and cowards hide behind their wall of anonimity trigger happily, smugly and slyly thumbing down. At least if they are going to keep the system it should be known who gave a thumbs up and who gave a thumbs down......folk will think twice before thumbing down....surely!!

Should there be an option to remove a thumbs up/down......Yes I think so.

    Thanks :)

Haha. I've been in the politics section, which is mostly conservative, and answered a question that I know would get me a lot of thumbs up. After it did, I changed my answer to a racial slur.

I think we should. Sometimes I give a thumbs up when I mean to give a thumbs down or vice versa and that makes me so frustrated.

  • 1 decade ago

Why? It is what others think of your answer, do you think your know better than they. Some of my answer are to get thumbs down because they are get people thinking.

Yes, I've mistakenly hit the thumbs down on an answer before and would be delighted if there were a five minute window for take backs.
