Xmas or Christmas? Distinction without a difference?
Here is an answer to another question on this board: "Xmas or Christmas? Make up your mind! Stop crossing out my Savior's name!" The earliest Bibles were hand written, mainly in Greek, and were abbreviated wherever possible and clear. Thus, "Christ" in Greek ("Kristos") was abbreviated to the single letter, Chi, which looks like the Latin "X", but is equivalent to "K" or the hard "C". Thus, to write Xmas today is NOT to cross out the name of Jesus, but is a fine and very old Christian tradition. Agree? Disagree? Want to lynch me? What?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAssist with off-camera flash . . . anyone?
I have a Pentax D10 digital SLR, my first digital, and I love it! But it has a built-in flash that I hate. I'd like to use my Vivitar 2600 EF unit, with bracket, about 4" above the camera's hot shoe.
Can anyone here out-do "Gritz" Camera and tell me what I need? The D10 has no "X"-sync socket.

We all know that Mount Everest is the world's tallest mountain at (what?) 29,500 feet or thereabouts? Can anyone tell me what was the world's tallest mountain before Everest was discovered?
5 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoDo modern Christian congregations mock God?
Fire, flood, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, lightning, and other "acts of God" . . . By insuring their property -- especially church property -- against acts of God, do Christians (or other religions for that matter) mock the benevolence and kind graces of their diety?

She was pretty close in describing our world, with a few notable exceptions. Magic is not as easy as saying one or two words and pointing a wand. Wizards do share your world, often in plain sight, but unseen. We do not spend so much time and effort on protection of the magical realm, for the simple reason that muggles do not see magical things. I could park my car in your garage, and you'd drive right through it.
And the best part? You don't believe me! I and a group of friends are offering 10,000 'Galleons' (roughly $750,000 U.S.) to anyone who can disprove that our magical world exists.
We've tried showing you ours, but you just won't see it. "Harry Potter" you read as gospel, but you ignore the reality . . . again, "How did J.K. Rowling do it?
Your thoughts, please.
