Is not evil the absence of good?

Evil is not a thing, rather it exists in the absence of good.

I believe you are correct in saying that evil is not a thing of itselfl. I've always questioned the assumption of the nature, or power of evil. Evil, in and of itself is nothing. It has no inherent Power within itself. It is a fact that evil is a real experience in humankinds experience. However, like darkness, there is no inherent power within it. And also like darkness that disappears with the introduction of light, (thus proving that darkness is nothing in itself, but the absense of light), also evil disappears whenever you introduce the Light of God onto an apparently evil situation.

I would say there is no inherent Truth to evil. If God is truely Omnipresent, and Infinite, then there can be no spot where God is not. If you really think about and understand the concepts of infinity, and Omnipresence, you would then understand that there is truely no spot where the entirety of Spirit is not. Every point in space, and time, and beyond is inhabited by the totality of God. If that is True, and I believe it is, then there must be no inherently real substance to evil. Evil may be an expeirence, but of itself, is not real.

I'm not a Christian, however I believe that the allegory of Adam and Eve in the Judeo-Christian Bible states that when they took the bite of the fruit from the Tree of Good and Evil, they percieved the duality of Good and evil. However, notice that they were perceiving the duality. Notice that it was a perception. One can perceive many things, that are not real. I think the story of the Prodigal Son, touches on a profound spiritual Principle. We have to "come to ourselves", in other words, we have to wake up to the Truth that there is no evil, and understand that "Son, thou art ever with me." We have never been seperated from God. It is only in our perception, or in our belief systems that we are. And since we've been created in the image and likeness of that which creates, we also have the ability to create our lives, via our perceptions, and imaginations, and will, and intention.

My perception is that I am One with/in my creator. And whenever I am temporarily tricked into the perception of good vs.evil, (or, this worlds perception of reality), I consciously re-perceive my inherent Unity with my Source, and return to the Reality of God. It is an ongoing project, but one, I believe is accurate, and very rewarding.

    Thanks for the question... :)

    Peace, and Namaste!

Not exactly. Evil would be the "seeming" absence of good. So we must unsee evil now to get a clear spiritual perception.

Just like dark is the absence of light?

I don't think the two comparisons are on the same level, but Evil is a consciously committed action.

    No.

rather good would be the absence of evil. But who is to define what is good, and what is evil?

i don't know about evil being the absence of good but i do know that evil is not good

No, evil is its own entity. The absence of good can also be pure and simple apathy. Me sitting on my butt for my entire life isn't good, but it isn't really evil if I'm not hurting anyone either.

Evil and good are figments of all of our imaginations.

Us silly humans, we make up a lot of things.

  • Thats silly. Both concepts are man made constructs in the first place. Thus imaginary.

Morality is based upon time place culture and circumstance. Therefore not an absolute. Thus... imaginary

good and evil are meaningless. there is only the battle of wills and the randomness of the universe.

Evil is the hatred of God and hatred of others to the point that your deeds are totally wicked.
