I was turned down on a job based on my race?
This is a serious situation it's real and it happened Monday.I interviewed with a health care company for part time job as a nurse. I am highly trained professional with years of experience. The woman told me she had two more interviews and she would call me by today and let me know.My girlfriend works at this company,in the accounting office in which handles all the paperwork ect. for new hires,I did not receive the job and from "the horses mouth" I was only turned down because the woman in whom interviewed before me was,african-american?!? I do not understand as is :1.) I have more experienced 2.) I am a rn she is lpn 3.) pay rate is the same 4.) I am more trained in this particular department!
I am not trying to be racist here.. I feel I am the one being discriminated against! I have all my facts in order! Wth??????
edit: I meant to put this in :
My friend Kelly said her boss said :
It was the "Affermative action" law????
(sorry if it's spelled wrong ;) )
SHE INTERVIEWED AFTER ME SORRY for any typos :)
Ethan: I specialize in cancer patients please do not be so uneducated as to not read my question and answer with such an ignorant answer!

First of all, anyone who owns a business knows that Affirmative Action is NOT a law. Equal Opportunity Employers are just people who implement Affirmative Action, its not legally mandated and while you get some benefits for doing it, you're not punished for not doing it. So your "friend" Kelly horribly misquoted her boss.
Secondly, my mother is a nurse and people hire LPN's over RN's all the time. They're actually PREFERRED for part time and temporary work because, despite what your already uncredible "friend" said, they DO pay LPN's less, so for healthcare agencies it's more cost-effective. Also, whether or not she's with an agency and whether or not you're with an agency plays a big part in who gets hired where.
Finally, if your friend works in accounting, she'd have access to the Black woman's salary, etc, but NOT usually her resume. That in and of itself sounds highly suspect that she would say she KNOWS she has less experience than you if she isn't supposed to be privy to that information in the first place.
I'm sorry you missed out on a job, but blaming a Black woman and Affirmative Action for it won't help you get a next one.

It is dependent what activity you are going for. Obviously if you are correct approximately being unpleasant (and the reality you regard your self as unpleasant does not imply that you're!) and you're going after jobs in which you conveniently need to appear well, then you'll be at a drawback. It's a reality, too, that we're extra inspired with different persons's bodily beauty than we care to confess in occasions in which we will have to have an interest entirely of their paintings efficiency. As we can not see you, possibly you will have an sincere chat with anyone who's ready to take an extended difficult appear at you and be sincere approximately matters. Perhaps you would bear in mind making a few alterations on your commonplace kind: there's this sort of factor as a "jolie laide", that means a girl who whilst you appear at her within the bloodless mild of day isn't particularly in any respect well watching, however who manages by some means with the aid of make up, hair kind and kind of get dressed to influence persons that she is. It's the change among being beautiful and being wonderful. Look into it and notice what can also be performed. And consider -- if you'll be able to get to the factor of seeing your self as wonderful, you can discover that you'll be able to convince others too! That's part the struggle!

I will honestly say that isn't cool at all. A qualified candidate should be all that matters in the selection of employees. I would want the best and only the best for my company, there would have to be a more legitimate reason for me to turn down a potential employee for a person of color. If the person of color doesn't have those outstanding credentials you possess, then tough titty! Affirmative Action should only be emphasized in places where the diversity rate is greatly threatened-I think you should report that because that was uncalled for.
Source(s): But then again, you wouldn't want to be working with people with those kind of racist views anyway-its sad how the world will never seem to get past race and ethnicity.... - LindieLeeLv 51 decade ago
Rather than listening to second hand information why not call the one who interviewed you to get the facts?
And yes, reverse discrimination happens all the time. At least you know that it was not because of your work record or any undesirable qualities you have.
Shake off the dust and get back out there.

Yep she was just another racist pig. But remember you are SUPPOSED to feel bad for something you never did.
That is why I work for myself, I call all the shots, and don't deal with other peoples bullshit. You also have the opportunity to do the same, get away from the petty biggots, do your own thing, you'll smoke them, but they know that.

well Lex pretty much explained it. However, why don't you try a hospital? Is the hospital market big where you are? B/c from my knowledge, hospitals are always needing work

If they said it was because of affirmative action, yes you were turned down because of your race.
A company is required by law to turn down qualified white applicants and hire a black person if they don't have enough black people on staff... as racist as that may be.

I see no proof of racism here. Just because your friend says something doesn't make it true. Stop pulling the race card and deal with your problems

Honestly, there's a pretty good chance you were. But if you were there's no way you'll know about it because they'd never just go ahead and admit that.
They'd just make up some bs like they preferred the other candidates answers

God forbid the black woman was actually more qualified than you. That didn't even creep into your little brain did it? How do you know all her information....is your girlfriend screwing the boss? Be honest, she tried to "screw you in" and it didn't work, so you blame the black chick?
