Side effects after Hernia removal surgery/Appendectomy?
I had an operation a few months ago to repair a ventral/umbiblical hernia. I have noticed that recently my stomach is slightly swollen and kinda hard at certain times (when I eat or I have gas). I would like to know if this is a normal occurance. I also had an operation during this same time to remove my appendix. however, I'm still having similar pains as I did pre-op in my lower right abdomen. It is not as intense as before, but it still hurts. Is this something that typically happens after surgery?
additional info: I am a 23 year old male. I gained like 20lbs since surgery :( went from 187 to 208)

You don't say if your appendix was normal or abnormal. If your appendix was normal---don't expect any significant change in the pains. Most lower right abdominal pain that comes and goes occurs in females and is related to their ovary and/or menstrual cycle. If you are female and continue to have pain 4 or 5 months after the surgery---do 2 things.
1---check with your hernia surgeon first and make sure the repair is holding
2--if the hernia is ok---check with a GYN to make sure there are no other problems related to your menstrual cycle
If you still have pain-----it can be related to scar tissue or other issues such as IBS or obesity that are very difficult to resolve and you may need to seek a more comprehensive workup

Don't you think you need to be asking your doctor these questions instead of Yahoo Answers????
