bloody diarrhea in 8 month old puppy?
I would like to start by asking that you keep respectful, I do not need to hear crude remarks.
Our 8 month old puppy has always been healthy, until this afternoon. I noticed that her bowel movements we're a bit bloody. As the afternoon continued, she began vomiting, and then I noticed the bloody diarrhea, actually it seemed like it was just blood.
Since it is the Holiday, our local Vet office is closed until Saturday morning, and believe me when I say that I will be there as they open their office doors.
But still, I am worried to death about my puppy. She has been drinking plenty of water, but her diarrhea continues to be blood.
I have no idea what the cause is, I am sure there are a million different possibilities....
She doesn't seem to be too lethargic, but I have her in a separate room to keep her activity limited.
What else can I do to help her through the night and through Christmas day?
Please, I already know that I need to get her into a vet...but any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have an entire day before I can seek medical help for her...I need to ensure that she will be alright and I will do anything to help her that i can.
Websites all say the same thing...get her to a vet.
But there has to be some home remedies that I can try to at least help her through the night/day.
Please, any suggestions, and advice would greatly ease my mind right now.

Bloody stools and vomitting is a sign of Parvo, but it could be something else as well. I know it's going to be hard to find a vet at this time, but try your best to contact one. Talk to a vet over the phone, more than likely they will ask you to come in which is your best bet.
I hope your puppy gets well, it's upsetting to hear these things on here.
ADD: Veterinarians do not go completely obsolete over the holidays, contact an emergency vet. Anyone that is near you, what you're describing cannot be treated at all at home, it needs medical attention immediatley. What town are you in? Im sure I could find an emergency vet close by.

Has your puppy had all her puppy vaccinations?? This sounds like parvo. She needs to be kept hydrated, but if you have no experience with these things it may be a little hard for you to do.
There is no ''home remedies'' for parvo, and absolutely nothing you can do will ensure that an extra day without veterinary care will not make her worse.
The only thing you can do is try and make sure she drinks enough water, and only offer her really soft food, in very small amounts.
No there are only a couple of problems that present with these symptoms, but if her vaccinations were not done, and followed up the chances of this being parvo is VERY high, and the sooner you get her to a vet the better her chances of survival are.
This is highly likely to be a life or death situation, and unfortunately vets are doing to be reluctant to look after an unvaccinated puppy on christmas day, but do the ring around anyway and leave messages on ALL the emergency vet contacts answering services. Then hope one of them will decide to at least call you with some advise on what you can do to help her.

It may well be parvo, I dont know how rural of a town your in but there are emergency vets in my area, they give advice over the phone, but, most say bring your dog in, it could also be pancreatitis , my dog had this and her bowels were pure blood, I took her to the er vet on a Sunday she had a sub Q iv, some meds and was fine the next day. Now with Parvo they are sick, very, but the bloody diarrhea it starts sometimes with vomiting, the dog needs hydration, my dog that got parvo she wouldn't drink at all, she was listless in just a few hours, I took her to one vet he gave her shots told me cause it was the weekend she had a very slim chance, they had no one in the office on the weekends, said he could hook her up to an iv then on Monday see if she was still alive all for 45 bucks a day with no attention to her what so ever so, I took her home, bought her some pediolite for kids. gave her syringe after syringe full, whenever she would take it then I called another vet he was open on saturday til noon . took her in she had parvo. 6 days later and 300 yes just 300 she was well . But for tonight get some pediolate give her or him a teaspoon at a time once every 20 mins also if your dog will eat feed them cottage cheese. Be careful not to force liquids, because if they aspirate they can get fluid in their lungs just what they will take. Hope this helps you. Oh and if you have a pharmacy open there is a vet near my area that says Tami flu kills parvo .. don't know it that is true or not.

This sounds like Parvo. You need to keep your dog hydrated. The dehydration part of parvo is what mainly kills the dogs... Do you have any vets around you that have an emergency line? This is serious... I dont mean to be so up front about this but parvo causes a really quick death, really quick. If you cant get your dog into a vets office, there isn't a very good chance for your dog.
Good luck and I hope everything turns out okay. Merry Christmas! =)

Hi, If I was you I really would try to find a emergency vet as soon as you can. Most vets are out on holidays but if it is emergency they will come in and treat your dog. Did your puppy get all of her vaccines? I know you are all ready probably worried out of your mind but it does sound like parvo and if it is she needs a vet immediately to get on ivs and get treated. I do know canned pumpkin helps with diarrhea from just a upset stomach but pure bloody diarrhea is not just from a upset stomach. Was she also de wormed? Worms can cause blood in the stool and cause diarrhea. But with her vomiting and diarrhea I would be really worried and just try your hardest to find her a emergency vet. I hope you find a vet and she is fine...Good Luck

The only useful advice is to get her to an emergency vet. There's many possibilities for sudden bloody diarrhea in a previously healthy dog, some of them deadly: gastro ulcers, coronavirus, parvo, colitis, giardia, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. If this were my puppy, I sure wouldn't be waiting until Saturday.

So sorry to hear your dog is in this state. It could be serious. Most of the other answers have said what I would have said.
Do please let us all know how she is. I think the suggestion of water and liquids was good. If it is Parvo or something she will get worse so you will be forced to find an emergency vet.

I assume pup got her 3 sets of shots. If not it could be Parvovirus. You can't do anything except see the vet as soon as you can.
