My boyfriend might have herpes?
My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 yrs now and last week he noticed a single sore in his genital area. We went to the doctor and now we have to wait for the results but she said its a 70% chance that its herpes.
I was a virgin when we started going out and have been faithful and i know he has been faithful too.
He has been with another girl only once but 5 years ago...could herpes stay dormant for that long? If so how come im not experiencing any symptoms?

many people have herpes, and they dont know it because it stays inside of them, and never comes out.
it could be that he has had it all his life (least likely) or he could have it from previous relationships.

Yes, herpes could stay dormant for that long and you may not be experiencing symptoms maybe because you don't have it, but also the most common STDs don't even have visible symptoms for a long time. It's a good thing you went and got tested, it's better safe than sorry. Also, he may not have gotten it from his previous girlfriend because he could have gotten it from his mother.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. I think that herpes comes in waves; he could have never shown any symptoms before but that doesn't mean he didn't have the infection. He probably had it and didn't know (much like diseases like chicken pox, which you can have for several weeks before showing signs). Also, it is unlikely to be spread unless it is at an outbreak, so that could be why you never got it.

Hi heart, sorry to hear your question, in can be very scary when your faced w/ the fact that you might have a STD. Wonderful thing is that it can be controlled w/ meds. The only thing is from now on your going to have 2b upfront with any future partners when or if you form new relationships. Which will likely be the case,Seldom do we have sex with one person our whole lives. Good Luck:-)

yes. and it can (obviously) be transmitted even when no sores are apparent. same for cold sores.
