Choosing a career path is harder than i thought it would be?

So I am at that age were i have to apply for college soon and i don't know what i want to do. And I don't want to go in as undecided. I either want to be a Agriculture Education Teacher or a Police Officer. Tell me what you think I should do please.

Being a police officer is great money. You start out with a job making $30,000-50,000 a year and then you can go to $50,000-65,000. Then you can set goals for yourself to be a , Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captains who make about $85,000 a yr. I would like moving up in my job. I'd like to work with the K9 Unit because I really like working with animals and riding horses in the city would be fun too. BUT, Police officers work 24/7. So I'd probably get some crazy hours and that'd be taking time away from my family. Money shouldn't be all that important but I barrel race horses which is expensive anyways and you need weekends off for that. But as an Agriculture Education Teacher, I'd have the PERFECT hours. Weekends off and holidays to spend with my family. Teachers only make about $50,000 with an entry wage of $30,000. But there is also only 1 ag teacher in my school and there is only 5 in my entire county. So what are the odds of me getting a successful job. i don't know if i will be able to get a job to still have enough money to get the things i want but as a cop i don't know if the hours will work with my schedule.

please help

You've done a terrific job of looking at the alternatives, and you have correctly figured out the strong and weak points of both possibilities. So now, you need to look inside yourself to determine how to make the decision. First, the likelihood of your landing a job teaching agriculture is, as you have already determined, infinitesimally small. That fact alone should make you consider the choice extremely carefully. But when you discuss being a police officer, the best part of it for you seems to be the money. Here are a couple of other things to consider. There are lots of other things to teach besides agriculture. If you want to go into teaching, specifically, then it might be wise to pick a field like math or general science, where there usually are a lot of openings in a lot of places. Whatever you decide, you need to think about personal satisfaction as your primary motivation for the choice. At the end of the day, no matter how much money a job pays, it is not nearly enough if you hate doing it. The same is true of a job which gives you a lot of time off. If you hate the job, then it is awful when your time off ends and you have to trudge back to work. Look at the options and ask yourself what kind of work personally satisfies you. What makes you happy when you do it? And, by the way, your choice right now is not the end of the world. When I started college, I thought I was going to be an advertising executive. Instead, I became a teacher of English as a foreign language. I never got my own yacht, as some advertising executives do, but I have had a great run in the field I finally chose. So relax. Nothing is carved in stone yet.
