Santa has brought me a tv and home theater system but I can't get it to work , can someone help me?

I have a Philips 42" tv model (42PFL6704D) and a Philips home theatre system( HTS3372D) and I need to know if I must use a HDMI cable to make the connection between them. I have been trying to do it with old dubbing cable I had on hand but I can't get it to work.

I can purchase the cable as soon as something opens after Christmas, but I would love to enjoy it for a while today. All help appreciated, Glenn P.S. merry Christmas

You definitely want to use an HDMI cable. You'll pay a fortune for one at Best Buy or most stores, but you really don't need to spend more than $10 for one. I always buy cables from Monoprice, they're great:

If you want a cable now, you can always buy one locally, open it carefully, and use it until your cheap cable arrives, then return it. I must admit to having done this, but since I returned the cable to like-new condition, I didn't feel too guilty about it. If the local store had it for a reasonable price, and not $80, I would have kept it.

You also want an RCA cable (any will work) to carry digital audio from your TV to your surround sound system, this will carry the audio from video sources other than DVD back to the HTS3372D:

Lucky you! - but the answer to you question for today is "no" - you need an HDMI cable.

As you have pointed out - you can buy a cable when stores open, but quite simply you have to just read up on how to use the system for now and don't spend a forture on the cable.
