I think the American Dream is an idea that a man raised by a single mother on welfare can go on to become a doctor or a lawyer, an idea that a man who came from nothing can become a millionaire in the future. The American Dream is a symbol of equality that states a man whether he be Black or White, Rich or Poor, Asian or Hispanic, Southerner or Northerner and Republican or Democrat will receive equal treatment in achieving his goal in life. The American Dream is a symbol of opportunity, that you don't have to be a rich kid growing up in a mansion to attend Princeton, you can be the kid growing up in South Central Los Angeles and still get to an Ivy League school.

In my view, the American dream is an idea that is not ephemeral but everlasting, an idea that has guided us and proven to us time and time again that even in the darkest hour, a White Knight can emerge and become the leader of a world in turmoil whether it be a recession or a war. That White knight can be from a family on welfare or a family in a mansion.

Only in America can a man from the slums become a somebody in the future.

Only in America can a man raised by a single mother and grandparents become the president and the leader of the free world.

Only in America can a poor man who could barely feed himself as a child become a millionaire who puts food in the mouths of millions.

My American Dream is to attend at least two Ivy League schools, only for my undergraduate and one for my masters. Hopefully it is Yale and Harvard but even if I don't get in, I will transfer from a two year university and then go to my Ivy League school of choice and attain my bachelors. After that I plan on getting my Masters from the Yale Business School or Harvard Business school.

    Wanna know why?

because in America I can do these things, even as a kid who is a high school senior, a kid who had to overcome adversity and grew up in a third world counrty. I can be a somebody and hopefully that is a CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

I hope your American dream comes true.

There is a much larger variety of people in this country today, than there was back when the term was first used. It originally meant to have the perfect spouse, a nice house, a family and have a decent amount of money.

Nowadays, people have bigger difference between each other in lifestyles, ideals, etc, and there are lots of people who want to live their lives differently than the classic definition of the American dream.

In my opinion though, it's really living my life the way I want to live it, without any opression from closed-minded individuals.
