It's no competition. Harry Potter is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

Twilight has no depth while Harry Potter has tons of it. Twilight fans spent time arguing who Bella should end up with. Harry Potter fans, on the other hand, spent time discussing things like what the unknown Horcruxes would be and which side is Snape really on. Harry Potter goes deeper than who is going to end up with who. Before the series ended there were thousands of theories floating around with the Harry Potter books. There still tons of theories even now that people have managed to create by analyzing the books and hints JK Rowling has given in interviews.

When it comes to depth between Harry Potter and Twilight, Harry Potter would be like an ocean. Twilight would be more like a puddle.

Twilight's main focus seems to be about Bella and who she'll end up with. Basically, about love. But the love described in it, I can't help but think is just abusive. It's the thing that comes to mind when I think about the relationship between Bella and Edward. Abusive. The second thing that comes to mind? Controlling. I'll get more into this later.

Harry Potter has a lot to do with love too, and not just love that's between a couple. While Edward and Bella's 'love' seemed to come out of no where and just seems obsessive, look at Ron and Hermione. Ron and Hermione's relationship was built up through 7 books. The key words there being "built up".

And look at Harry's parents, Lily and James. James tried to take Voldemort on to give Lily and Harry time to run for it and didn't think twice on it. Lily was told that she would be spared if only she would move and let Voldemort kill Harry. She refused. She was given another chance or two. She had time to think on it. And still, she refused, and begged Voldemort to kill her instead. No one had ever survived the killing curse. In her mind, there was barely even a slim to none chance that Harry would survive even if she were to die for him, if that. Yet still, when he repeatedly told her to move out of the way and that she would be spared, she still refused.

She sacrificed herself for her son, and the love she had for him was so powerful that it continued to protect Harry a number of years after she was dead and gone. For the longest time Voldemort couldn't even physically touch him.

Sirius Black was Harry's godfather and went so far as to break out of prison to protect him. in fact, he was the first known to ever escape from that prison and he was a high security prisoner. Despite being in hiding, he still managed to get Harry birthday presents. When things at Hogwarts started to get fishy, to be with Harry to provide moral support and just be there incase anything happened, he hid out in a cave and survived off rats for a few weeks.

And look at Molly Weasley. She has such a big heart that she considers Harry to be like another son to her even when her family is poor and struggling to get by. To some extent she does the same with Hermione. She's downright scary when it comes to protecting her children. Bellatrix Lestrange, a long time huge supporter of Voldemort and highly skilled witch actually goes from laughing it up to being completely serious when Molly steps into the duel after her daughter is almost hit with a killing curse. Molly ends up killing her, even though Molly has never really been seen in any fights through out the whole series.

And the love Severus Snape had. He was deeply in love with Harry's mother since childhood. He continued to love her through his school years and still loved her the day he died. He had begged Voldemort to spare her. When she died, he dedicated his life to protecting Harry, the son that Lily had with someone who bullied him A LOT in school. James' best friend even nearly got him killed by a werewolf. He feels a great amount of the pain of unrequited love

Do you see any of this in Twilight? No. Let's look at the 'love' in Twilight. When Jacob is faced with unrequited love he threatens Bella with suicide unless she asks him to kiss her. And Bella's dad mostly just seems to watch tv and drink a lot. Hm.

This brings me to the issues of feminism, which pisses me off most with Twilight. Bella seems to have this thing where she NEEDS a man in her life in order to function. When Edward leaves her she's horribly depressed and alone. Next thing you know, Jacob walks in and suddenly everything starts to get better.

Edward goes as far as messing with her truck in order to keep her from going to see someone she considered a friend. Whenever Bella tries to go against Edward and do what SHE wants, he either makes out with her until she forgets the whole thing or goes behind her back - even bribing other people to make sure his decision is being enforced. It doesn't really matter if he's doing it because he feels it's what's in her best interests. Bella has her own free will.

The whole Edward/Bella relationship is abusive and obsessive. Life outs

Harry Potter, definitely. First off, Harry Potter is written much better than Twilight; the depth of the magical world far outweighs the shallow place Mrs. Meyer created in her Twilight books. Mrs. Rowling does not spend page after page, word after word decribing one particular thing, such as a person, and instead concentrates on the far more important story. The books lack the purple prose that populate Mrs. Meyer's books so heavily, making them a more enjoyable and easier read.

Each character in Mrs. Rowling's books is distinct and memorable. In Mrs. Meyer's books, however, everyone but Edward, Bella, and Jacob are stereotype people. Those three characters aren't stellar either. Bella only seems to love Edward for how he looks instead of who he is. The Harry Potter books also have better plots. The Twilight series' (I refuse to call those books a saga) plots seem thrown in at the last minute because it is impossible to publish a plotless book or story. As such, they are rarely decent plots and are taken care of too quickly and easily. Nothing important is sacrificed in the Twilight books and no one from the good side ever dies. In the Harry Potter books, many people die, good and evil, and much is sacrificed for the good of the world.

tl;dr: Harry Potter is written better and has better characters and has better everything else.

It is my opinion that Harry Potter is better for a couple of different reasons:

    1. Harry Potter has higher moral standards, sending out a message that good reigns over evil, while Twilight teaches young women it is more important to be throwing themselves at men than getting an education.

    2. Harry Potter is appealing to more than just teenage girls because it is more than just a love story.

    3. Harry Potter has a plot and subplots, while Twilight can be summed up as 'Bella loves Edward.'

    4. JK Rowling is more skilled as a writer than Stephanie Meyer, who seems to describe Edward as only 'beautiful' throughout the whole Saga.

    5. Harry Potter is timeless, where as 50 years from now, Twilight will be uninteresting as it would no longer be relate-able to modern life.

    6. Bella is a degrading and unlikable female protagonist who comes off as perfect, along with her Vampire boyfriend Edward, Harry Potter, however, has flaws and has to deal with them throughout the series.

    7. In terms of movies, Harry Potter is popular because it is entertaining and interesting, while Twilight is popular because of attractive cast members.

    8. Harry Potter is exciting. Twilight is 2000 pages of Bella either feeling sorry for herself or chasing after Edward.

    9. Harry Potter has stronger characters. You feel like you get to know even the smallest characters well from the description Rowling gives. For me at least, I still feel like I don't know who Bella's character is, even after four books.

    10. Harry Potter is universal, and will continue to be for a long time.

Source(s): My own experiences reading both sets of books and watching both movies, as well as a few internet debates on the subject.
  • Harry Potter.

J.K. Rowling actually TOOK the time to write, Stephenie Meyer spit out book after book in a year's time.

The story of Twilight is so simple compared to Harry Potter.

There are a million things like Twilight, but only one Harry Potter..

There IS a reason HP is already on the classics list with books written by Charles Dickens, etc. Twilight is simply written, and in my opinion not very well.

Harry Potter is ultimately better than Twilight.

Twilight has no plot at all, it's basically the same conversation in a bunch of different places, whereas Harry Potter's plot is so complex and twisted, it's actually hard to describe.

Twilight's characters are plain and one dimensional. So shallow and empy, it's disgusting. They have no background or anything. The characters in Harry Potter actually seem real. Some of their names actually even have different meanings. I don't need to elaborate on this one as it basically explains itself.

Twilight has no moral values. Unless of course, you consider abusive boyfriends, anti-feminism, and giving your life up for a guy values. Harry Potter though, actually does have many values and morals laced throughout the story.

Harry Potter, because Harry Potter has depth and themes about good/evil, friendship, doing the right things, destiny, love. While Twilight was about how important is to have a sparkly boyfriend, give Bella Swan whatever she wants and leave the other characters with nothing.

Source(s): Read both series, I wish people would stop comparing the two. Nothing alike, except the fame. Twilight is more like a fad.

I haven't read Twilight. On this basis, I say Harry Potter is better.

    Harry Potter!!!!

When I read Twilight, I liked it. Simple as that. It was an enjoyable read, and that's all. It was slightly intereting, the plot sucked but when you read it it's slightly suspenseful, the characters are sort of interesting, etc. I read it with the fad, and the last half of Breaking Dawn was horrible, and I didn't see why there was such a big fad, but I'll admit that when I finished the series, I really was into it.

I started reading Harry Potter back when I was seven years old, and I had always loved it. Recently I had a chance to re-read the books, and it doesn't compare to twilight one bit. The plot is so much deeper and everything that happens is so much more intense. When Harry is plotting against Voldemort, with so many smaller adventures intertwined, it is so much better than Bella running from vampires.

But what I love most about Harry Potter are the characters. Throughout the series, JKR develops them as if you know them personally. I feel like Harry, Ron, and Hermione are my friends. I feel like I'm close to Dumbledore and I could laugh with Fred and George and hate people like Bellatrix, Draco Malfoy, and Voldemort. When Harry went in the Chamber of Secrets, I could feel his apprehension, as well as when he witnessed Voldemort rising in Goblet of Fire. I could feel his frustration for no one believing him in book five and the realization that he must die in the last book. I feel like Hogwarts is my home. When someone dies in Harry Potter, I feel sad as if I knew them...I cried when Dumbledore died. Stephenie Meyer does not have that effect in Twilight. Her characters are much more shallow, and you don't feel the same connection with them as you feel with the HP characters. She also does not kill anyone on Bella/Edward's side...for example, if Alice died or something, it would already be better. In Harry Potter, it is pretty much Harry vs Voldemort, with so many people in between. In Twilight, it is Edward vs Jacob but not really vs the Volturi and Victoria sort of. It might be interesting if Stephenie Meyer wrote it better. It's a page turner when you're reading it, but sort of confusing and not developed well. JKR's world is so planned out. It took her years to plan out the rules of the world of magic before she even wrote the first HP book, and it paid off in the books. She deserves her fame.

    Harry Potter, off course!!!

In Twilight, there are some gay-looking guys running around and being all serious and strong and whatever.

"Harry" is AMAZING! The plot, ideas, love, love, love in all it's ways, hate in all it's ways, humor, mystery... I mean, it's Harry Potter, come on!!!
