1997 ford explorer 4WD with 5R55E transmission?

Ford Explorer 1997 with a 4.0L v6 with a 5R55E transmission 4WD. It lost reverse but all the other gears work just fine. It has braking in 1st low gear.

I read on the internet that if the 1st low gear does not work the Reverse/Low band is busted or bad servo rings but the 1st gear works normally so I assume the band is intact and the servo is fine.. Could this have possibly blown a valve body gasket?

Sounds like the reverse gear is damaged inside the transmission. It's similar to breaking a timing gear, chain, or belt. The crank still turns, but the valve train won't. Hope this helps. Christopher

First verify the transmission fluid point. save on with the instructions on your vendors instruction manual or verify on the top of the dipstick they many times provide instructions there. If the fluid is high quality then your Trans is long gone. Take it to a cautioned (people who've had artwork performed via a business enterprise) Trans service center, maximum will look at, verify the concern & write you an estimate for loose. If the fluid is rather low this would result the opperation fairly, upload fluid & re-attempt. stable good fortune, wealthy
