Something that caught my eye the other day that I had to fight not to laugh at...?

Ok, just to straighten things out beforehand, I hate everyone the same, get what I'm saying? Don't care if you're white, black, yellow, brown, purple with hot pink polka dots, I treat people how they treat me, but every now and then something'll catch my eye and it makes me want to slap the offending person and ask them "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

So I'm sitting outside the hospital the other day waiting for them to move my grandmother out of the ER and into ICU, getting ready to walk over to an area where I can smoke a cigarette without someone chewing me out for it, and this black girl comes out of the hospital and sits on a bench opposite me... what got me was her jacket....

"STATE PROPERTY"

WTF?!?! Can someone please explain to me why anyone (White, Black, Yellow, Brown, Purple with hot pink polka dots) would wear this? And would it have been horribly wrong for me to laugh in this girl's face and explain to her why I think her jacket is horrible and wrong and unacceptable?

Update:

Somehow I did manage not to laugh until she was gone, but still... just ~wrong~!! Sarcasm or not... the way I see it is you (as a race) don't fight for years and years for equal rights and against being owned just to turn around and put on a shirt (jokingly or otherwise) that you belong to the government, might as well have said "SLAVE"... nice joke...

Update 2:

Because, although I would still be bewildered if it were a purple with hot pink polka dots girl wearing it, there is the extra-special irony of the equal rights movement that this girl's parents or grandparents and relatives further back were likely involved in in effort to try to eradicate the idea that (especially) African Americans (can I start calling myself a Scottish/French American and be offended if someone simply calls me "white"?) are property or somehow less than people who are simply genetically prone to having lighter skin pigmentation. I called her a "black" girl because while I might not be completely politically correct, I'm not going to call her a "colored" girl or worse, but I absolutely despise the term "African American", I don't know a single honky who insists on "German American" or "Slavo-American", "Irish American" or anything else... if you're west of Europe, north of Mexico, and south of Canada, and a citizen, you're an American. There, I said it.

If you hate everybody equally as you say, then why did you refer to her as a "black" girl instead of just a "girl".

Anyway, I quit looking at what other people say on their clothing many year ago. Most people throw on a shirt or jacket and don't even realize they're making a statement.

maybe laughing in her face was a little harsh, you could have laughed to yourself if you wanted to laugh that badly. while that is very funny, & kinda disturbing at the same time.

Either she was being ironic, or she's an idiot. I'd have about died laughing either way.
