Mother's depression causing me to drift away?

Since I was around 12 my mother has had depression. She's been on and off of medication for it, and is now completely off. The highs and lows she experiences are intense and hard to deal with. I'm 22 now and have since moved out and graduated from college, but I come back occasionally to visit. However, it's extremely hard because while i'm gone she will call and say how much she misses me, but when I come home she screams, yells, puts me down, and makes it a miserable time. It's gotten to the point where I can't stay at home for more than a few hours without getting tired of it. I don't want to completely cut her out of my life, but how can I deal with it in a better way?

Visit her for only a short period of time. You may also want to encourage her to see a professional because of the highs and lows she is experiencing. Hopefully if she takes medication on a regular basis, her moods may become more stable. I hope things will get better. Good Luck.
