Question about the Southern Baptist Churches?
Do they actually preach that Catholic cannot get you into heaven. Catholicism leads to eternal torment in hell, because catholicism teaches works for salvation, which is against JESUS'S FREE SALVATION. Or this is made up by one person?
I have been a Catholic for over 55 years, studied the Church, been a Scripture Teacher for over 10 years and have never heard that Catholicism teaches works for salvation,if I have missed that, where does it say in our Catechism, because I cannot find it?
David you make me laugh, I have a man and he is way better than you and I was talking about SBC not you

Once a long time ago, I put myself out by taking a neighbor to his local baptist church in my car.
because he was handicapped.
I became a regular' and it was discovered that I was Catholic' and was approached to admit my true faith, I did'' and was the victim of satanic Mary worship.
I duly took my leave and never went back again.
They are indoctrinated by their local preachers, who have know one to answer too.
Please do not allow those hate-full so called born again christians to get the better of you Sue.

Relax Sue, it does not teach such nonsense in the Catechism or the Bible just like it does not teach their foundational doctrine of "faith alone". In fact, it teaches the opposite of faith alone.
There are some Baptists who make up lies about the Catholic Church. A lot of these churches follow the theological doctrines of Bob Jones University which are even more into man-made doctrines than most Southern Baptists. Their proof text methodology relies on the false hermeneutical practice of eisegesis. They do not go to the Bible to learn as most Christians but instead use the Bible to support their man made doctrines and teachings. That is why their biblical interpretations are often so non-sensical. They also lack spiritual and theological maturity that inhibits them from coming to the truth. When it comes to Scriptures they have what I affectionately call a dyslexic understanding. ( no offense meant to dyslexics) Unfortunately, many of the Southern Baptist seminaries are moving away from evangelical Christianity towards this unreasonable fundamentalist theology. I have a MDiv from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and when I was there they took a more scholarly approach to theology than the "pop culture" approach so common today. They have become some of the most worldly of all the Protestant faiths. They attack the Catholic Church because we reject the worldly influence yet stay connected to the changes in culture in order to lead people to the truth without wavering from the teaching of Jesus and the disciples.God bless!
In Christ

Note:
The quotes from Catholic sopurces only prove that the Church believes that all salvation is about God's grace and not works as you erroneously claim. Remember a thousand lies do not equal one truth. Also remember that a fear of God is the beginning of knowledge. You do not fear Him now but i am sure you will when you have to stand before him and explain the thousands of lies that you have told about His own Church. May He have mercy on you.

As a convert to Catholic, it was never said that "good works lead to salvation" in Christian education classes. But However, in medieval history this was often believed to be the case. We converts learn that Jesus Christ through God can only grant salvation to all who believe and lead the true Christian Life.
Perhaps stay away from Southern Baptists, they seem most erroneous of all Protestants.

Not all SBC people do teach that but many do teach that one cannot be saved if one remains in and believes the doctrines of Catholic Christianity
Others say that one can be saved in any Christian denomination as long as one accepts Christ as Lord and Saviour
The accusation that the catholic Church teaches salvation by one's own works( inspite of Trent's and Vat II's contradicting that)is as old as the Reformation
It contradicts the Catechism of the Catholic Church and it can be found no where in it, but that does not stop those who do not check their sources or are blind to questioning what they have been told
Catholicism teaches that we are saved by the works of Christ and not our own
we are saved by grace alone and our graced cooperation with the free gift of grace alone( which is God's initiative, sustinence and completion) but not by faith alone (isolated from life and hope and active love) which is dead
David reads into the conciliar texts what is not there: his own determined dedication to the demonization of Catholics and Catholic Christianity, which is the source of what Christianity he has.
Pray for David/Chris/CJ that he might come to know Christ as the Lord of Love and the Deliverer from Hate and cooperate with the grace.
Happy Christmastide, everyone!

I'm not sure you can fully blame the Southern Baptists for the misinformation, but since they are grouped with evangelical fundamentalism, they are part of the problem.
I'm not Southern Baptist _or_ Catholic, but I do know the rhetoric is common and directed toward Catholicism without considering that first and foremost, Catholics recognize that salvation comes freely through Jesus Christ and not works. This same complaint is made against any group that preaches the importance of works (given the parable of the talents, I'm surprised this group of faith-only people haven't declared that Jesus isn't Christian).
Paul really said it best when he taught the Corinthians that "As in Adam, all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive." Salvation is universal and not dependent on works _or_ faith, but by the good grace of God and his Christ are we saved.

As we all know, there are about 38,000 protestant ministries and growing and are still sprouting out everyday and the Southern Baptist Churches is one of them. This is the product of sola scriptura and bible alone antibiblical protestant teachings. It is divisive and contradictory. So, inasmuch as they could not convert each other, they turn to the 1.2 catholics for members, that's convenient and nice indeed. So, we also know that there are plenty of cafeteria, sunday and liberal catholics, who are good candidates by the SBC.
As someone said, we need to educate our socalled cafeteria catholics and also the non-catholics of the Gospel Truth - that we are saved by the Grace of God. Requisites to attain the grace is faith + good works. One accuses us when they say "Catholicism teaches works for salvation"; this is the work of satan, the great accuser and father of all lies.

I have never heard it preached at a Baptist service, but I have heard the statement that Catholics believe in a "false gospel of works" from more than one person at different times.
It does seem to be "taught" at the fundamentalist level:

I am a convert to Catholicism. As a teenager I attended a Baptist school. While I do not recall ever hearing that Catholics taught a false gospel of works, I do remember our principal often making fun of other religions.

I've heard my Southern Baptist sister's pastor and her Sunday school teacher make similar pronouncements, but I don't know whether or not that's the official doctrine of the entire denomination.
It may be that our poor little "I'm not a Protestant, I'm a saved believer in Jesus Christ" Catholic hater is merely repeating what he's heard from the pulpit. Heaven knows he's certainly good at cut-and-paste, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's plagarizing something from Pastor I.M. Betterthanu's Sunday sermon.

Here is a discussion he had with a Catholic Priest who is a regular, contributing member of R&S:
