computer build suggestions for around $750?

My son is planning on building his 1st computer. He has picked out some good stuff and will probably be a very cool setup, but I want to build one that will keep up to his for half the price.

Any suggestions of a build that would end up around $750. mouse, keyboard and monitor not important at this point thanks for any suggestions?

We have been pricing evrything through Newegg. Anyone have other suggestions?

This is going to be abbreviated. But, I just completed a computer build that cost me $800. (Maybe even less now).

Just some tips, if you don't go with my setup. Spend less on the case. The power supply he suggested has waaaaay too much power. My system is running on a 430W Power supply and has much better quality transistors and is more efficient (longer lasting).

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core @ 2.6GHz

    Motherboard: ASUS 785G-V Evo AM3

    Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 @ 1.5V Dual Channel

Video Card: XFX ATi Radeon HD4770 GDDR5

    Case: Cooler Master Elite 332

Power Supply: Seasonic M12 II 500Watt 80 PLus Bronze Certified

    Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.12 500GB

    Optical Drive: DVD Burner.

    Hope this helped.

first get a cheaper case. that dosent look $90. the power supply should be a better company and look at 1200w. i got my blu ray for $89. the gpu is a bit to good for everything else. a $430 gpu with a $300 cpu? whatever game he wants to run dosent need a 5870 even though the desicion to go with ati is correct. a 5850 for 300 would be better. i got my dvd for $20.look at amd. as they are cheaper and performe same performanc.e the amd phenom ii x4 965 be which im runniin in bechmarks does as well as the 920 but costs $100 cheaper. im using an asus m4a78t-e for $120 and its fantastic ans supports heavy overclocking. im using an 5770 gpu and im running games like dirt 2 with no frame lag with all settings inlcuind anitaliasing and all those maxed out. this brought it to about $1000. (also builton newegg) i know this isnt ur 750 budget thing but to try to get him happy or match his specs this is what i can offer. oh and he's frogetting liquid cooling. get the corsair h50. its $77 and is really good. their are better but hose are like $300.ur forgetting a copy of windows. get windows 7 64 bit oem for $100. there are important tips like not connecting power when building. using an $3.00 rosewill anit staic wrist strap. thr right de magentized tools. (search rosewill tool kit on newegg) when installing the mobo be sure to use brass standoff.s thats how i fried my mobo when it was my first build. if the psu is to low which im seeeingmay be for the gpu then when overclocking or when gaming it may fry parts. good ventiallations is very important. intel steals money. they may have the fastes stock cpy but amd has the world record for overclocked cpu which is the one i reccomemended u at the top. gaming dosent need that much power. this is my computer. the total was the same as urs but i also bought the hd monitor, windows, and has an 1200w psu

AMD phenom II X4 965 125watt 3.4 ghz unlocked processor quad core overclocked to 4.0 ghz

    liquid cooled corsair H50

8 gb ddr3 ram at 1333mhz overclocked to 1444 mhz(or somewhere close to that)

    asus motherboard m4a78t-E

gigabit lan 10/100/1000 routers gigabit too

    7.1 hd audio

    AMD 790GX chipset

    3200 mhz front side bus

1 tb hard drive 7200rpm sata

Ati radeon HD 5770 1 GB GDDR5 v1.3 hdmi output

    1200 watt power supply with 1 80mm fan and 1 140mm fan

Windows 7 64 bit home premium

NZXT nemesis elite case-3 120mm led fans with fan control and temp reading LCD monitor

2 extra 80mm fans just because.

    Wireless N 2.4 GHZ and 5GHZ

3 monitors with the main being a 23" hd lcd monitor full 1080p 2ms respnse time 20000:1 contrast

    1 blu ray drive 8X BD-rom

    and 2 other cd/dvd drives.

get a AMD based device the only distinction is a phenom 2 965 black version doesnt have hyper threading yet is alot swifter interms of velocity and FSB besides and hyperthreading does not something except your working a 4ghz processor and you could in basic terms overclock i7 to those speeds besides. basically AMD wins ... back
