I'm going to Chicago this week and will be there for New Years. What are fun things to do there?

most of the cool night clubs are located in river north area (cab drivers know how to get there)
http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=&find_loc=Chi...
on that page you can plug in dj's, dancing etc as well as restaurants
get a good map of chicago. at state and madison it is the zero mark, meaning that all addresses start at this point, so you can go 100 north, and you'd be 1 block north of madison
or you can go 100 west, and you'd be 1 block west of state street, and so on.
it's a pretty simple grid system
stay away from 500 west and further
and 100 south and further
in other words, stay away from the west side (still being rehabilitated) and the south side (can be known as the badlands)
here is a phone number that you should remember: 312-836-7000
it is the info line for transportation in chicago. they can tell you the easiest ways to get around via the "el" (elevated train) or bus. the red line el goes 24/7
here is their on line link where you can plug in addresses and landmarks etc: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/
there is always standing on that ledge thing at sears tower now known as the willis, you have to pay to get up there tho
if you want the same view, go up michigan ave to the john hancock center. you don't have to go to the observatory, but rather go to the 96th floor. it's a bar/lounge and the views are great (even from the bath rooms LOL)
you should visit these landmark restaurants: GINO'S EAST for some good chicago pizza
or Ed Debevick's for some strange waiter routines. they are both on this page: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=&find_loc=Chi...
Navy Pier is kinda of kiddie oriented, but right there are some river boat cruises, just get an enclosed heated one especially with this winter we are going thru.
museums etc: art institute/ michigan ave; adler planetarium/shedd aquarium; field museum.
shopping at water tower is PRICEY
stick to state street stores, right in the area of state and washington
if you want to email me for more, please do so: chicagomenusonline@yahoo.com
i would be more than happy to help you, and to ask my 21 and 27 y/o more about hot spots they go to as well.
btw, chicago is known as the windy city not because of the wind, LOL, but because of the politic's throughout the year, in other words, any way the wind blows (kind of corrupt LOL)

Try every type of pizza there is in Chicago; sight see along the lake front; see if you can get tickets to one of the studios for a live show taping; visit what use to be called the Sears Tower; shop at some of the stores because many of the catalog stores are right there; take the "L" train; visit museums, take a casino cruise; visit the aquarium; visit NavyPier; have dinner at some celebrity owned restaurants; Buckingham Fountain; go on a photo safari and be sure to visit the sports stadiums to take a picture next to the artwork. I love Chicago for too many reasons to mention. You can also drive to Gary, IN and tour Michael Jackson's beginnings and you can also drive to Milwaukee.

Go to the wiener circle restaurant after 2am, and get yelled at by a bunch of pissed off black-women, its all for fun though its a good time!
I would also recommend eating at Uno's pizzeria with at least 4-5 friends since even a smaller pizza covered 2 fat blokes, me and my girlfriend and its good fun!
China town is pretty cool too, you can pick up a badass samurai sword form 20-200 usd depending on what you want.

Depends on your interests... Navy Pier is fun to just hang out, see the weird sculptures & people & the lake view. There are hundreds of amazing restaurants--if you like Spanish food, Cafe Iberico is one of my favorites. (or you could do a tour of Obama's favorite restaurants--tried that once, but fyi, the pizzeria is just a take out place) There are electric scooters you can rent on the lakefront & do a motorized tour of the city, tons of museums--Art Museum and the Museum of Science & Industry, Natural History Museum, the Planetarium are all pretty cool. Water Tower Place has very upscale shopping or there are lots of fun vintage places scattered around... Oh, and Chinatown is pretty fun to explore, just avoid it after dark as it gets a little dicey.

I have been browsing more than three hours today searching for answers to the same question, yet I haven't found a more interesting debate like this. It is pretty worth enough for me.
