because even though theyre cliches they describe situations perfectly thus leading to their overuse.

I think the majority of them are true, and that's how they become cliches. Like, "If you don't use it lose it." That is so true for me in two situations. One is a foreign language I learned in school, but I never used it, so now I can only remember a couple words. Also, I took piano lessons for 7 years when I was a kid, and now I can't even play "chopsticks!" :(

However, you are so right about some cliches. Right now I can do without hearing "At the end of the day" when it doesn't even make sense! The "chocolates" one from Forest Gump is often true, if used in the correct context!

Interesting question always gets a star from me! ;D

Sometimes cliches just become a joke.

And also they do become popular because they apply so well to life. But then its overused, and people think it's funny to say it.

I like some cliches, but sometimes they are annoying. They lose their amusement after, oh, say, 300 times.

I really find that it depends. I try to avoid using cliches whenever I can, but as many have seen, I often fall short of that. I think you're right though, a little moderation never hurt anybody. Peace.

Wow, you sure don't beat around the bush. Its as clear as mud that you have an axe to grind. Why do you attack cliches when they are as American as apple pie? Am I talking to a brick wall? I bet your parents are the same way...after all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! I guess I'd better stop now b/c my computer is being slower than molasses and I've got to get up before the crack of dawn. Also, I realize that my comments are about as welcome as a skunk at a lawn party. Please forgive me for having a little fun with your question...I'm not usually so wry. Blame it on the rain.

(Seriously, I didn't do this to annoy you-just for fun)

    :)

It saves the enormous effort involved in saying something original. Also, if the cliche happens to be the buzz of the month, one can appear trendy by using it.
