Interlaced to Progressive converter?

Is there any device that can convert Interlaced picture (480i, 720i, 1080i) to Progressive picture (480p, 720p, 1080p).

I recently bought a Vizio Full HD but wil not be getting HD service for some time. Standard cable is broadcast in 480i and the 'line jumping' is quite noticeable.

So my question is: is there any device that can convert between the two instantaneously BEFORE the signal reaches the TV? Preferable price range is $75 or less.

Thanks

What you want does not exist in the consumer world at this price for a simple reason, every HDTV out there has it's own converter. Your TV is upconverting to 1080p whether you like it or not. When theTV shows the 480i info, it's just telling you what the source is. Nothing you could buy is going to fix the crappy low def signal you are getting now.

If you have standard cable, scan your channels. You should have a handful of HD channels, they would be your local networks. By law the cable company must transmit these 'in the clear'. Your Vizio should have a 'clear QAM' tuner that can receive these channels. So at least you have some high def.

When you get the funds, get a blu ray player, they are now under 100 bucks, and you can rent blu ray from just about any place that rents DVDs.

Also, in my area, the HD cable box is only 18 extra bucks a month.

Your TV has its own converter but there is only so much you can do with standard cable.

Save your money and simply either get digital cable or an antenna.
