A lot of technological advances were brought back by the crusaders from the Middle East.

The famous Damascus blade, according to written accounts, is as hard as diamond and will remain sharp forever. Though the Arabs tried not to give the Crusaders too much of their advanced technology, it is common knowledge that Europe came out of the Dark Ages because of all the advancements they brought back from the Middle East.
