Is it normal for the fan on a heat pump/air conditioner...?
to continue to run after the desired temperature has been reached? I have a new heat pump and only use the heat occasionally (I live in Florida). When the heat comes on, it runs on auxiliary heat for about ten minutes before the heat pump kicks in. After the temperature on the thermostat is reached, the the indoor air handler shuts off and outdoor heat pump fan continues to run. I don't know if it ever shuts off - it seems like it continues to run indefinitely. This doesn't seem right to me. Are there any a/c or heat pump specialists out there who can help me? Thanks!
I don't know if I'm having a problem - that's what I'm asking about. I will call a/c the installer if there is a problem.

Normally the outside fan will quit when the t-stat is satisfied. Also your unit should start using the heat pump before the auxiliary heat kicks in. The aux. heat is electric heat strips in the furnace. My advice is to get the installer to check out the unit asap.

I would recall the installers. We can't test it, pressures, temps, amps, etc., to be of any real help, only guess; and you'd have to call someone anyway.
The starting sequence is out of order with the aux. heat coming on first and the outdoor unit fan running and obviously the system should stop when the t-stat is satisfied. That's all I can say for sure about your system operation from here.

You have problems with the system, get the installing company back out and get it corrected.
