  • I bought a laptop at a garage sale and it apparently has no hard drive...?

Instead, it has two dvd/cd rom drives. When I turn the computer on, the Windows XP Professional OS logo comes up. How is this possible without a hard drive? The computer then shuts itself off. I assume that the person I bought it from used an external hard drive to boot from, but now that the external drive is not present, it can't boot. Am I correct in this assumption? I only paid $10 for it, so it's no big loss, but I would like to get it to work. How can I do this?

  • Is it normal for the fan on a heat pump/air conditioner...?

to continue to run after the desired temperature has been reached? I have a new heat pump and only use the heat occasionally (I live in Florida). When the heat comes on, it runs on auxiliary heat for about ten minutes before the heat pump kicks in. After the temperature on the thermostat is reached, the the indoor air handler shuts off and outdoor heat pump fan continues to run. I don't know if it ever shuts off - it seems like it continues to run indefinitely. This doesn't seem right to me. Are there any a/c or heat pump specialists out there who can help me? Thanks!

  • Using a wireless router with a cable modem?

I have a Scientific Atlanta DPC2202C Cable Modem and I have connected my Linksys WRT54G router to it so I use the wireless capabilities of my laptop. I can get it to work with no problems, but when the laptop connects to the network, it says that my network is not secure. I have tried to secure the Linksys, but when I get in to it, it asks for a user name and a password. I know that I am supposed to skip the user name and type in "admin" for the password, but this does not work. It never lets me advance beyond this screen. Any suggestions as to what I should try next? Thanks for your help!

  • Need help dealing with a realtor?

I am in negotiations to purchase a short sale and the seller's realtor is telling me that a letter of preapproval from my lender is not good enough for the seller's bank - they want an approved mortgage up front. I have never heard of a mortgage being approved up front without the offer I presented first being accepted by the bank - and neither has my lender. The seller’s realtor has also asked me for other documents that my lender says she doesn't need. I think she is trying to stall and is being deceitful to try to get out of the deal because the seller received a cash offer after they accepted my offer and signed a contract with me. How do I get the straight scoop on what the bank is REALLY asking from me, the buyer? How do I deal with this realtor and get what I need from her? What do I do when a realtor is being untruthful with me? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Actiontec MI424WR Router question?

How do I change the default channel on the router so that I can get a better wireless signal? Every blog I read says to try changing the channel on the router, but it never explains how to do this. Could someone please explain this to me? Thanks!

  • Advice from anyone experience with feral kittens...?

I would really like advice from anyone out there who has worked with feral kittens. I had a male and a female that I caught with a humane trap, and I had them both tested and neutered. Neither of them ever tried to bite me or scratch me, but they were very uncomfortable being touched - especially the male. The female seems to relax quite a bit when I take her out of her cage and pet her, but I feel like I start over from ground zero every time I try to touch her. The male was so resistant that I decided to let him go today so that I could concentrate my efforts on the female. My question is this - how long should I keep trying before I give up on her? Can cats like this ever be good pets? Can I expect some sort of "break through" to occur with her? I have been working with her for over 3 weeks now.

  • SNES vs. Wii - what games are similar to these?

I am a new Wii owner. Back in the day, I owned a SNES (Super Nintendo) and I loved it. Anyway, my favorite games for my SNES were Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Kart. Can someone out there in Yahoo! Answers-land recommend some similar games to either of the games I mentioned above? Does the Wii website have either of these two games for the Wii? I know that a new Mario Kart is coming out in April. I was just wondering whether I could find something similar now. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Question for a tax attorney or a CPA...?

I am the owner of two vehicles. My fiance uses one of them for work (he is a self-employed musician) and pays for all maintenance, gas, insurance and repairs on this particular vehicle. But as I stated previously, the car is in my name. For the past several tax years, my fiance has declared the car's mileage, gas, tolls, and repairs for deductions on his tax returns. What are the implications/liabilites of this arrangement as far as an audit would be concerned? Is there anything that we can do, short of signing the car over to my fiance, to legitimize this arrangement, or do we even need to do so? I would appreciate the opinion of anyone who is knowlegeable of tax laws. Thanks!

  • I need a lower unit for my boat engine...any ideas???

I have a 1990 40 hp Evinrude Tracker boat engine that's lower unit has gone bad. I need a working lower unit for it. I could use anything from 1990-1992 unit and anything from 40 - 50 hps as a replacement. I have looked in every conceivable place, but I am coming up empty at this point. Any good ideas out there as to where I might find a good, used lower unit? Thanks!

  • Air conditioning wiring problem - help!?

Help me, please! I have an old air conditioning system...made in 1985, and the condenser fan went out. Long story short, I bought a new fan and I don't know how to hook it up. The old fan had 4 wires coming out of it: purple, black, green, and brown. The green is the ground and the brown and the purple went to the capacitor, black to power. Then there were two smaller black wires attached to the capacitor and they lead out to other components. My new fan has a green wire, a white wire, a black wire, a brown wire and a brown and white striped wire. My problem is this: I don't know where to attach the white wire or what to do with the two smaller black wires that were attached to the old capacitor. I was told by the gentleman who sold me the fan that I splice the white wire to purple wire - then do I hook that to the capacitor? What do I do with the two smaller black wires that lead out to other components??? (Cap them off???) I am confused and need some advice!
