What damage can you do to a PC if you turn the power supply power switch off while the computer is running?

It shouldn't cause any harm unless you were in the middle of something and you lose that data. However it can cause issues if you are updating your OS at the time.

That would lead to an improper shutdown which could cause data corruption in your harddisk, as the data on the harddisk is being read and written continously while PC is on. When computer is shutdown, all files are safely closed.

Its certainly not a good idea! You could corrupt the programs that are running at the time it was shut down. very similar to a power outage!
