I have heard of it being done before, but i believe that a doctor will only do it, if it is completely necessary, not just to know the father of the baby. What i mean is if there is something they need to know medical then they might do it. But from what i hear they will just tell you to wait until the baby is born and then do it right there but all doctors are different. Just remember that when you have an amniocentesis there is a chance of miscarriage or preterm labor. So if I were you i would talk to my doctor about it and fine out their feelings that is your best bet. Good Luck.

My cousin had it done during the amnio but the amnio caused her to lose the baby :-( so it wasn't worth it in the end. She regrets it now. If the Dr is already doing the amnio for another reason they will usually go ahead and do the paternity test for you but I know the OBGYN's I have seen don't recommend even the amnio unless medically necessary because it has such high risks involved. The day the baby is born you can have it done with no complications.

Doctors won't do it solely for paternity. They risk losing their license and you are so not worth loss of income for 30 years.

IF you are already having amnio for medical reasons, then the doctor will give you any extra for your paternity test. In some cases, they don't get enough for their own tests and you are SOL.

I do know of ONE instance (and this only because my friend's husband in an ob/gyn) and it was because one of the potential fathers had the Tay Sachs gene and since she did as well, she would have chosen abortion. Fortunately, the father turned out to be the guy who didn't have Tay Sachs). This is a horrible, incurable illness with most children dying before the age of 4.

  • i've never had a paternity test done but I know that it's not recommended because it has risks of miscarriages and other issues occurring and I believe it's quite expensive too. I had an amino done because of family history of birth defects and I can tell you that it's not a pleasure test to have to go through. you should ask your doctor about it because every doctor is different and has different point of views on the subject.. good luck

you will not find a doctor to do a amnio for paternity alone - period. It risks your baby life. You will have to wait until it's born

i think of so... whether that is extremely risky and medical doctors dont generally do it except its an emergency difficulty. i could in basic terms wait till the child is born i comprehend this could be complicated for you yet interior the tip no count whos infant that is, you go with a healthful one, suitable? so i wouldnt take the possibility.... that babys yours no count what. think of useful and revel on your being pregnant!
