A loose rottweiler attacked my dog in the street, what does the law say regarding such attacks?
I can not see any marks on my dog but he is limping
I know the address of the dogs owner, and have reported the incident to the police but they do not seem interested as a person was not bitten

In the uk owners have a responsiblility to ensure that their dog is under control at all times (they can be off lead as long as they are under control).
If your dog was attacked by a dog (of any breed) then it should be reported to the police.
Although it is not acceptable for a dog to come running over to yours, are you sure it 'attacked' rather then just playing roughly? A rottie attacking would certainly leave obvious damage if it meant business with clear wounds.
If yours is limping with no puncture woulds it may have sprained/twisted his leg, let him rest but take him to vets if no improvement.

People react differently to dog attacks like this but I would say it is a normal response to a potentially life-threatening situation. Rottweilers aren't small dogs and if they turn aggressive then they can deliver some serious injuries so I think that how you feel is normal. It is in some dogs nature to be like this, especially if they haven't been trained at all, but if the owner can't control the dog properly and keep it locked up knowing that it has a tendency to attack dogs or people then it must be taken away and given to someone who can look after it and train it properly. I would consider taking legal action against the owner to be honest. Not to get compensation out of it but to have the dog removed from their house as the dog has a record of being aggressive and has caused you severe problems over it. You could always try to speak to the owner and let them know how you feel and see if they can give you reassurances about keeping the dog secure. If not, then I would definitely seek legal action to see what you can do before any further incidents happen.

Your first responsibility and priority is to get your dog checked over by your vet right away. If you're in the UK, then you are responsible, by law, for the dogs welfare - whoever attacked it.
If the dog was genuinely dangerous, then the police need to know. However, it is NOT mandatory for a Rottie to be muzzled, contrary to what you have been told.

You can report it incase of further attacks, they may potentially find out whose dog it is but if you dont know anything about the dog, havent seen it again and dont have witness then not much you can do just keep a close eye and feel over your dog to make sure he's recovering ok (he should be), if he dosnt start improving take him to the vet.

Legally, the owner of the rottweiler is responsible for any injury to your dog as he allowed it to roam free - I'm pretty sure that a rottweiler is one of the breeds which are supposed to be muzzled if outdoors and is not supposed to eb off the leash...do you know who owns the rottie? You need to report the attack to the police and take your dog to the vet - ask the vet for a medical report. If you or the police find the owner of the rottie, you can sue him/her for the expenses you incurred as a result of your dog being injured. Hope your dog is OK.

The law for Rotties is the same as for any breed, it is a civil matter when a dog attacks another dog

Call animal control...are you kidding me??? What if this dog attacks someone???
As far as the law...well you can't sue a dog. Find the owner/handler
