Do you think that Wikipedia has made people stupid?

Nearly EVERY answer I see that has a source that is listed as Wikipedia. People don't even try to think anymore. When they see a question they just go to Wikipedia and copy the answer then paste it to the answer box. I have even seen t used as a source for college term papers. Thankfully the professor did not allow it because it is not a valid research source.

Using Wikipedia for academic purposes is just foolish and it should not be allowed.

When I provide links for one of my answers, I usually look at a few sources.

I havent really come across a Wiki page that seemed incorrect whereas its actually a rather good source where everything essential is summed up and in easy to understand terms.

So I may use a Wiki link in an answer, though I almost always give the other sources as well and/or say that yes I used Wiki and if the person is truly interested in a proper answer, they can search for more reliable sources.

Yes, it is a shame that everyone can't be omniscient like you. That would truly create a Utopian society.

PS the last page of every academic paper ever written is something called a bibliography, which cites sources of where all these 'original' thoughts came from.

wiki is just one of many other sources available to us. in the academe, it is NOT a valid source when you have to do a survey of literature. but for purposes of yahoo!answers, it's a good starting point - but definitely not THE ultimate word on everything.

Yes! I am so happy that professors do not allow people to use wikipedia as a reliable source.

This idiot told me that a lot people didn't die during slavery because wikipedia said so.

    ...that's how dumb people are.

I think technology in general has made us all stupid. Everything is given to us on a golden platter.
