What can you do with an unlocked cell phone?

While traveling, can you just buy a SIM card to make local calls or can you make cheap international calls too?

    Most likely you can I just unlocked my 3g and it works with any sim card. If they unlock your Iphone at at&t to go out of the country im sure an international sim will work. Advice: unlock it and if you sell it down the road, it increases the phone value.
