What is a good bible?
I'm looking to get a new study bible. I like when it explains the scripture in the margin and is easy to understand. There's a lot of options out there and it gets kind of confusing. Does anybody have a bible that they really like?

Thompson Chain Cross Reference Bible.
I've been preaching from it since 1972.
My first one was an KJV. My latest is an NIV.
I'm waiting for ESV to be available.
The marginal notes give you cross references so you see which verse relate to without spoon feeding you about what it means.
And to me that's good.
If you buy this study bible, the marginal notes are from a Baptist point of few, if you buy that study bible the marginal notes from from some other point of view.
That is what I like about the Thompson Chain.
Its not denominationally biased.

Bunches. If you can tell me which specific version of bible you like best, I can recommend a good study bible for that version. If you are not sure which version is best, I recommend that you step through the guide at this site - it will at least help you to choose the correct bible version, and may very well guide you to the correct study bible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me here or from that web site. That web site still does not have posted all of the information I have gathered on bibles, so if it doesn't answer your questions, I will be glad to do so.

I like the Harper-Collins Study Bible and am interested in the Oxford Annotated Bible which is used as a text in college Bible courses.

I currently use the NIV study bible. Though I have just recently become aware of The New Living Translation which is easy to read. I also like the GodsWord translation.

The New King James Version Study Bible is written in modern English making it easier to understand.

The Bible is its own interpreter. ( read the KJV, but the NKJV is also good) You just read prayerfully, and believe. I don't have a study Bible, but I recommend books by the following people:
CH Spurgeon
Reinhard Bonnke
Mehesh Chavda
John Knox
John Calvin
Martin Luther

Your best bet is to go to your local Christian bookstore and look at some first-hand. I know the NIV Study Bible is good, and the recent ESV Study Bible looks very good, though I haven't looked at it in detail.

There are NIV study bibles for students. And the Jerusalem Bible is a great one.

I have a Bible that is like 20 years old(it was my grandma's) and it reads really good but the cover is ripped off!
You should go to your local Christian Book store and ask them for what you want. That will be your best bet.
