Is the prosperity gospel teaching of the Word of Faith movement largely to blame for a bad U.S. economy?

I read something recently on the Christian Science Monitor's web site about how some pastors in different cities, towns, and states who pastored Word of Faith movement churches also held secular jobs as loan officers and helped some members of their churches successfully apply for new home loans and get them when the people really didn't have the financial ability to pay those loans,or,even have the ability to buy or even rent a new home.

This editorial opinion was titled the same as my question, and, the writer also wrote that some people at this one pastor's Word of Faith church in Virginia testified how God helped them financially as far as getting a home loan was concerned, but, the writer also found out that the pastor's secular job was as a full time loan officer for either a local bank or a real estate agency,I don't remember which it was.

Is it possible that this man and others like him did something illegal?

I don't think its illegal to be a pastor and a loan officer at the same time and recommend your loans to the congregation, most pastors probably don't get paid very well (outside of megachurches/televangelism, of course) and needed the money, but I believe the causes of the current economic crisis are purely secular.

No you can't totally blame the prosperity gospel teaching, although I am sure that on a very small scale it is definitely a factor. The U.S. economy is in terrible shape because the U.S. borrowed more than it should have, Americans in general (Christian and non Christian) became enamored with credit cards and the idea of spending money they didn't really have, and this country got involved in a war that it was not financially ready to handle.

No. Banking is all about favoritism and cronyism. The sad part it makes a lot of Christians feel unfaithful to follow the teachings of Jesus in the Gospel rather than clinging to the promises given to the Jews in exchange for obedience. Only a few in history were able to fully implement the teachings of prosperity in the Bible without eventually failing and falling from wealth and grace.

Sell all you have and Give it all to those in need- then follow Jesus. If you follow God for a profit then I hope your banking account can save you from sin and judgment. Si?

I agree. I do my terrific to no longer stereotype, yet sure I even have encountered greater hatered, ridicule and rejection interior the face of Christians than I even have present day in the different non secular doctrine. What i detect "humorous" in examining a number of the solutions is that "Pagan's can not be Christ-Like because of the fact they don't have faith what the bible says approximately Him". somebody please clarify to me how that's no longer so. If Pagan's instruct the comparable traits and character features that Christ portrayed, how are they no longer Christ like. Jesus did no longer have a denomination that He accompanied!! there have been no genuine divisions interior the church at that factor different than Jewish or Roman. Now, Jesus became a Jew, yet he did no longer "persist with" their non secular doctrine, does that make him any much less Jewish? Why, as a Christian, do you prefer to declare to somebody "properly yeah, you have all the comparable traits and character features that Christ had, yet that would not make you Christ-like." that is like telling a Math Genuis "properly you're large at Math and all, yet if you consider which you do no longer look like or persist with the actual direction that Einstein did, sorry we in simple terms can not say your a genius."! Come on human beings. God/insert deity did no longer create the separation is the non secular doctrines guy sort did. For those of you who carry so tightly to your faith which you won't be able to even admit that somebody who isn't Christian can nonetheless be Christ-Like, properly i've got faith greater sorry for you than I ever have. To think of that the term Christ-Like can in basic terms observe to Christians, properly you're lacking out on a perfect occasion of ways Christianity isn't the tip all be all answer and there are those people who stay our lives as examples to all, and countless everyone seems to be greater perfect Christians as Non-Christians than lots of your fellow believers are Christians and declare the call of Christianity. that's somewhat unhappy certainly whilst an excellent occasion is ridiculed as an excellent occasion.
