We regress to our own behavior, in other words, we remember the good times(and bad) for what we did and so on. Is one thing if they moved or cheated on you, for example. But in all honesty we recall the good experiences. There's a theory that whenever we are exposed to stimuli(environment) that it is good, we get a good response. Same applies for negative. You see, he's around, bored, remembers, thinks, etc and therefore, calls you and hopefully you feel the same way. It really depends on your mood and emotions to how you respond to it.
