How can I catch a mouse in my kitchen?
For 3 days I've heard a scratching noise from the cupboard under my kitchen sink. It sounds very much like it might be a mouse.
If I open the cupboard and it jumps out, it will hide somewhere else and I won't be able to catch it to put it out.
So how can I catch it?
Alternatively, how do I persuade my cat to sit and wait for it while I open the cupboard?
The sink is against a wall backing on to a shared storage room. From memory (I"m not going to look now) there is only a tiny gap where the drain pipe goes down. SO I don't even know how it might have gotten in there. Any clues?
ROTFL, Nathan. What an imagination you have !!
Update -- problem is, I now see the mouse DID get in by chewing at the back of the cupboard. When I opened it to show the cat the job I have for him, the mouse ran back into the wall cavity. So now how do I make the cat invisible so the mouse won't run that way?

idk if this will work in ur case or not, but we did this in the attic once:
u need a bucket, a ruler, and peanut butter. put peanut butter in the bucket, and lean the ruler up against the bucket so the mouse can get into the bucket, but once its in it cant get back out. it depnds on if u have the heart to kill the poor thing or not. if u want to kill an innocent mouse, then fill the bucket with water, and stick the peanut butter on something tha will float, like a plastic lid. if u dont want to kill the mouse (good for u =D) then leave the bucket empty except for the peanut butter. the mouse will climb into the bucket for some nice peanut butter, but wont plan ahead and get stuck. u have to make sure the bucket is deep enough though. when we did this with my attic, the peanut butter was gone, poop was all over the bottom, but there was no mouse, he got away with our peanut butter!!! but anyway try this and i hope it helps.

Mice is the problem that my wife and I had a couple of summers ago. They came from outdoors and there was a male and female that came in and they found various places ,upstairs and downstairs and they bred and had babies. They went in cupboards and bit holes in the floorboards and made a lot of scratching noises.
I bought the old fashioned spring trap and put on it hard stale cheese....it caught the male but the others got wise and avoided it. I then bought a humane trap which was a plastic oblong box and put some food in and it would be able to go in but not get out.. This way I think is the best and you could paint the box black or cover with black paper so it could not see through. When you know there is one inside...have your cat ready then open the trapdoor and let the mouse out and your cat will get it.

Easy as pie, you have the BEST mouser on the planet already: a CAT.
Just open the cupboard before you go to bed. The cat will get the mouse, trust me on this one.......I have had cats all my life, and have NEVER been plagued my rodents........
I heard on the Discovery Channel the other night, (some documentary) and the announcer stated "The average human is NEVER more than 8 feet from a rat/mouse".........THINK AGAIN, DISCOVERY!!!! With my two free "mouse traps", that made me howl with laughter............ ;)) Hope your cat gets the mouse..........

To catch the mouse, break up chunks of holiday fruit cake. (It isn't good for anything else.)
Insert small steel pellets in the pieces of cake. Spread the chunks of cake around the outside of the cupboard. By morning, you will find the mouse on one of your refrigerator magnets.
You don't need to make your cat invisible. Give it a bath and it will look to the mouse like a relative.

Well all i can say is you can put a mouse trap where you think the mouse would get into it. If you dont want to kill the mouse that way, you can buy a trap that doesnt kill them, but its more expensive, and larger. thats all the help i can be.
BTW: for your cat's safety DO NOT use poison to kill the mouse! that stuff is not good!
