Where was Noah supposed to have built his ark?

How do Christians explain his ability to gather polar bears, camels and penguins all at one time for example?

Not meaning to be rude, or attack beliefs. I'm just curious about how people explain it.

Update:

I am an Athiest by the way, I do believe that the whole story was impossible. However, I was just interested in how people who belived it would explain it. Like I say, No offence intended, I just find things like that interesting.

The “kinds” of animals selected had reference to the clear-cut and unalterable boundaries or limits set by the Creator, within which boundaries creatures are capable of breeding “according to their kinds.” It has been estimated by some that the hundreds of thousands of species of animals today could be reduced to a comparatively few family “kinds”—the horse kind and the cow kind, to mention but two. The breeding boundaries according to “kind” established by Jehovah were not and could not be crossed. With this in mind some investigators have said that, had there been as few as 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles in the ark, they could have produced the variety of species known today. Others have been more liberal in estimating that 72 “kinds” of quadrupeds and less than 200 bird “kinds” were all that were required. That the great variety of animal life known today could have come from inbreeding within so few “kinds” following the Flood is proved by the endless variety of humankind—short, tall, fat, thin, with countless variations in the color of hair, eyes, and skin—all of whom sprang from the one family of Noah.

These estimates may seem too restrictive to some, especially since such sources as The Encyclopedia Americana indicate that there are upwards of 1,300,000 species of animals. (1977, Vol. 1, pp. 859-873) However, over 60 percent of these are insects. Breaking these figures down further, of the 24,000 amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, 10,000 are birds, 9,000 are reptiles and amphibians, many of which could have survived outside the ark, and only 5,000 are mammals, including whales and porpoises, which would have also remained outside the ark. Other researchers estimate that there are only about 290 species of land mammals larger than sheep and about 1,360 smaller than rats. (The Deluge Story in Stone, by B. C. Nelson, 1949, p. 156; The Flood in the Light of the Bible, Geology, and Archaeology, by A. M. Rehwinkel, 1957, p. 69) So, even if estimates are based on these expanded figures, the ark could easily have accommodated a pair of all these animals.

In size the ark was 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Conservatively calculating the cubit as 44.5 cm (17.5 in.) (some think the ancient cubit was nearer 56 or 61 cm), the ark measured 133.5 m by 22.3 m by 13.4 m (437 ft 6 in. × 72 ft 11 in. × 43 ft 9 in.), less than half the length of the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2. This proportion of length to width (6 to 1) is used by modern naval architects. This gave the ark approximately 40,000 cu m (1,400,000 cu ft) in gross volume. It is estimated that such a vessel would have a displacement nearly equal to that of the mighty 269-m (883 ft) Titanic of this 20th century.

    Where?

In a large open place with enough room to built it and also with space to accumulate materials needed, pile up wood, etc,

Ability to gather animals from far places?

Several options, when travel merchant heard of a man who was collecting a huge amount of animals they probably spoted a business opportunity and capture and bring other animals to Noah.

Merchants: We got these rare paradise birds Mr. Noah. What about 45 gold pieces for the pair?

Noah: I will give you 40. Do you got koalas? I'm still looking for two or those. Be sure to include a male and a female or no deal.

I never thought about the variety of animals he gathered in that story. I mean, yeah, I know the story, two by two. (Though, actually it was two of the unclean and five of the clean animals...) But I never considered the fact that some animals aren't geographically near other animals. It's a good point. I guess someone who believes it would say that the big guy in the sky just herded them towards a generally Middle-Eastern area for Noah to grab.

We don't (in case you haven't noticed) go by scientific restrictions. God is a God of miracles. The fact, yes it IS a fact, that he created all things himself, makes it fairly easy to see that collecting all the animals to be on the ark would be okay for him. He shut the mouths of the lions in the lion's den in Daniel, and caused a donkey to talk and many other astounding things, he caused bears to come out of the woods to kill a gang of young men who were mocking Elisha. It was God himself who brought the animals to the ark, each pair at the right time and they all cooperated. Of course, it would be impossible for Noah to do it, but we never said he did. The Bible does say that God commanded Noah to bring the animals into the ark, but God brought them TO the ark. Also, the Lord certainly helped Noah to get the animals in the ark to their proper places.

I can't find exactly where he built the ark but what difference does it make? It says "on the earth", and gives no exact location.

Simple, the earth was one land mass at that time. It was in the days of Peleg, after the flood, that the earth was divided. Read Genesis. Science also says that the earth used to be a single continent.

    Added:

That also throws out the sea water/fresh water BS since the flood was on the land and flowed to the seas. So there would have remained seperation.

Forget the animals for a moment. Based on the dimensions compared with HMS Victory it would have required more than 40000 large trees to provide the timber to build the Ark. That is one hell of a lot of gopher trees to be cut down by a 900 year old man. Let alone the fact that he had to find them in semi desert.

Most fairly tales are a lot less ridiculous.

I don't think they do. Most theists I've spoken with either take the story of Noah's ark as a parable/metaphor - or they avoid explaining it by rationalization ("Mysterious are the ways of God! Goddidit!")

Science threw out the idea of a global flood occuring in the mid 1800's.

If the Earth overflowed with one kind of water, freshwater fish would die in seawater and vice versa.

And the bible states that the ark was 450 feet long, which is noway big enough to fit millions, and millions of species of land animal.

and the bible says Noah had seven days to load the ark with animals, so, for each animal he would have had exactly 38 seconds to load onto the ark. And how exactly does a Dodo bird fly to the middle-east in under seven days? A dodo bird can't even fly.

    Noah didn't realise that.

  • And how he did that the termites didn't eat the wood of the ark?

And the space of the ark must be very very very small to all animals:

And he can't put elephants inside the ark:

Noah is only a story for childrens.

Noah didn't have to gather any of the critters. They were all sent to him by God. Genesis 6:20.
