Cleaning white scale from Aquariums?

Recently lost my tiger oscar and am in process of making new tank. Aquarium in sad shape, covered in white scale. How do I safely remove this?

Update:

The aquarium in completely empty right now.

I found that using just very hot water does the trick with this stuff better than anything else. Its just calcium deposits, which will dissolve quickly when scrubbed with paper towels dipped in hot water. After its dissolved, wipe off all the moisture with another, dry paper towel. The heat does wonders, I scrubbed forever with normal water without a dent, but as soon as I got it hot it came right off. Make sure you wipe the area thoroughly afterwards though, if you just leave it standing wet you aren't removing the calcium and when the water evaporates the calcium will be left standing there again.

The 'white scale' you are seeing is calcium deposit. It is normal for aquariums to get somewhat of a buildup but having an algae eater in your tank will help alot as they thrive on that kind of deposit. Try using a weak solution of vinegar and water mixed in equal parts...that should do the trick. NEVER use soap in your aquarium as it will kill your fish...even the slightest amount. Hope this helps.
