California - What to do with old mattress (unusable)? How to get rid of it..?

We have this old mattress, probably not that old but it's sitting here nonetheless. It's not donatable, there is a slash on the backside from a fight and it's been sitting outside in the rain and is dirty etc.

I don't know what methods are legal or not so any information would be good, if you search similar questions "how to get rid of a mattress" most of the answers are simply "Donate it!".

Throwing trash in someone else's dumpster without permission is actually illegal. You are using a service someone else paid for.

Your community should have a dump, you can take it there.

If you have trash pick-up at your home, they usually have large item pickup. Call them and ask.

Many communities have trash haulers, or a handyman might be able to come and dispose of it for you for a fee.

You can take it to a junk yard or throw it in a dumpster. Those are both legal.

before any trash collector will pick it up, most companies require that it be wrapped in plastic before they will even touch it.
