Why did my Contractions Stop!!!?

Okay, So, I had sex and Walked around for about an hour (i was trying to bring on labor)

Anyways, The contractions did get started, And They progressed.

We timed them from 9 pm to 11 pm.

At first they were strong and irregular, between 3 minutes apart and 10 minutes apart.

Then They FINALLY got to 5 mins apart, So we waited and I had a few that were exactly 5 minutes apart...

My husband Loaded the Car with the carseat and Hospital bag And we waited a few more minutes (cause my sister-in-law was here swearing we didnt NEED to go to the hospital) And Then They started trailing off.

Getting farther apart and becoming less painful (after 3 hours!) Until they just Stopped!!! I was so Mad!

Anyways, If they were 5 minutes apart, Shouldnt my water have broke and I have progressed more?

I thought The contractions at 5 mins apart meant Active Labor...Can You just stop in the middle of Active Labor?!!

You should have waited til they were 3-5 minutes apart for *at least* an hour to and hour and a half AND extremely painful.

You might have just been on the threshold of active labor, but packing up and jumping in the car put you back out of it. You could also just be in pre-labor, with the sex being what brought on the contractions. I've been having contractions for almost a week, sometimes 5 minutes apart.... but I'm *not* in labor.

You've got way too much anxiety. That's what's stopping your labor.

Stay home. Calm down. Don't time every single contraction. Don't go to the hospital until your body "feels" like you need medical intervention.

Yes, you can stop in the middle of active labor. Contractions aren't what breaks the bag of waters...some women have their water break before contractions or dilation even start, others don't break until the doctor does it for them when they deliver the baby. No one knows exactly what stops active labor. Changes in air pressure can do it, women have been farther along in active labor than you and stopped dead because a storm system rolled in (changes in air pressure can also trigger labor). And there are about a dozen other things that can stop labor.

How far along are you? Braxton-Hicks can come and go for weeks prior to labor actually commencing.

Active labor contractions are about 5 minutes apart for at least one hour.

Your bag of waters may not break until transition or have to be broken via an amniotomy.

    Congratulations and good luck!

Sex and exercise both can cause the uterus to contract. However, unless your body is already in the early stages of labor, the contractions will stop.

Your body obviously isn't quite ready.

Don't stress yourself out trying to go into labor. I know it's frustrating but the truth is that it won't happen until your body is ready.

If you aren't in early labor having sex, walking, etc. isn't going to help.

yes sometimes people just stop....i'd call ur dr and tell em they can check to see if ur dilated and how much, however i don't think they'll keep u and try to get a good contraction pattern until ur 4cm dilated or ur water has broken.... Good luck..
