Which metal is the "real" metal?

I'm a huge fan of "traditional" heavy metal (NWOBHM, proto-metal, thrash, progressive, power, etc.)...

I know there are many metalheads who mainly love the real heavy stuff (death, black, etc.), and I wanted to know which metal you prefer? (if you even do like metal)

BQ: Which British metal band is your favorite Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, or Motorhead?

BQ2: Your favorite genre of rock

There's no "real" one..I think it's all personal preference..

I personally love NWOBHM and Thrash the best. Andddd. Not reeeally Metal, but Glam Metal . [*ducks*]

BA: oooh. Judas Priest..I think. Well, it's tied between them, Maiden, and Sabbath. :S.

BA2: atm, if you count punk as a subgenre of rock, then protopunk/glampunk. If not, then..classic rock

I like all kinds of Metal, but the real Metal is the old stuff (Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Slayer, etc.) All Metal is Metal regardless of sub-gneres, but some Nu-metal bands tend to be a pathetic attempt at Metal all together. The only Nu-metal band I listen to is Slipknot (even though I don't consider them "real" Metal), since they actually have a Metal sound, unlike Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit, who are NOT Metal at all. They're just a pathetic excuse to be in the industry to make money off of promotions from MTV. Real Metal differs in each gnere though.

    BQ: Iron Maiden

    BQ2: Can't name a favorite, I like Death/ Deathcore/ Black/ Medolic/ Speed/ Thrash/ Grind/ Power...etc, many gneres.

in my opinion all metal is "real metal" but some sub-genres are better than others. personally i prefer either metalcore or deathcore, mainly because im a fan of breakdowns. thrash metal is also good. best band that covers all those aspects of metal is trivium by far, matt has the widest range of vocals of any artist ive ever heard.

    BQ1: iron maiden

BQ2: my favorite genre of rock is a tie between metalcore and hardcore, i love bands like demon hunter, but a day to remember is just an amazing band, so sometimes its hard to chose, but lately ive been leaning more towards metalcore, because its brutal, but still has core aspecs such as breakdowns and normal singing.

there isn't a "real" metal, there are so many different branches of it it just depends on what you like most. i'm not a huge fan of metal, but i would say the metal i do listen to is just traditional heavy metal, not too much growling or snarling lol. bands like avenged sevenfold and mudvayne, a bit on the lighter side of the metal spectrum.

BA: none, like i said, not too into metal.

BA2: alternative, punk, indie, a little metal, hard rock... a little bit of everything :)

nighttime KP :) i think of of two issues first {my awareness of metallic is somewhat constrained!} :~ a million) commonplace metallic / Heavy metallic :~ form O unfavorable ; Metallica ; Iron Maiden ; Apocalyptica 2) unique Heavy metallic :~ Led Zeppelin ; Black Sabbath ; Deep pink *for those approximately to ***** at me* i'm not likely to get into it back as to why those 3 bands have been termed 'Heavy metallic' back in the day. They have been ~ in simple terms manage it. MQ : random selections 'i don't Wanna Be Me' ~ form O unfavorable 'warning' ~ Black Sabbath

I like the newer heavier stuff.

BQ: Iron Maiden I guess, I like the 7th Son album

BQ2: Like rock and not metal? Well, Hardcore I guess, but that's not even really rock anymore, I don't think you can call Dillinger Escape Plan rock, I guess classic rock from the 70's like Led Zeppelin and Queen.

If you meant like, heavy metal included as a category of rock (which it sort of is and isn't) I'd have to say... ummm, I dunno, I like all of them, like, death and thrash and all them.

JRock/JMetal is the real metal for me. Of course every subgenre of metal is real metal, but I think JMetal is the best. In my opinion it's much heavier, darker and better than European and American metal. There is no band better than Dir en grey. They have the best vocalist in the world and they're the most brutal band ever. Other awesome bands in this genre are Deathgaze, DIO ~ distraught overlord ~, -OZ- and UnsraW (all death or thrash metal bands). Versailles (power/speed metal), D'espairsRay (industrial metal) and the GazettE (alternative metal) are amazing too.

    BQ: Bullet for my Valentine

BQ2: Visual Kei/JMetal/JRock, metalcore, melodic death metal, death metal, thrash metal, extreme metal, power metal, speed metal, neo-classical metal, heavy metal, symphonic heavy metal, industrial metal, nu metal, alternative metal... I only dislike black metal (no offense, but bands like Immortal are gay)
